Question From OEM IC -> EVO IC's with K24 more Turbo lag?

Hello,

I currently have the OEM (no-X50) ICs, with K24, GIAC Stage 4, EVO WG 1.2 bar to the red line…etc

I do not track the car and I really do not want to increase the turbo lag in fact decrease it. I am concern on reduce the pressure installing such a big IC as well as not justifying the $$ for no track use.

Can somebody tell me or share some of your experience about EVO ClubSport Intercoolers?

Does the lag decreases?

Thanks!

Question

anyone...lets put it this way:

Would EVO intercooler create less lag over GT2/non X50 intercoolers?

Better ICs have nothing to do with decreasing LAG.

Hi
You need those IC.. if you look at all High Performance Cars that are turbocharged they all have huge IC.. Supras using 4.5 inch by 30inches.. Suby's and Evo just for an example :-) I use the EVOMS and I must say they are a great product!

What Mark said...lag is about time it takes to get enough pressure built up to turn the turbos...the bigger the turbos the longer it takes to get that boost built up. The ICs will help to cool the air flowing to the turbo...therefore they will (may) make more power.

Thanks!,

Thus, if the EVO IC have better design an the air can flow better:

Will this make the turbos spool fater?

VS.

More volume (bigger IC) will reduce pressure on the system -> making more lag?

In theory, this is true. In practice, the difference in volume would have to be absolutely HUGE for you to feel a difference. A pair of K16's can fully pressurize the difference in volumes between the stock and EVOMS intercoolers in milliseconds. Now, if we're talking about intercoolers with internal volumes several times the size of your gas tank, then there may be a difference you can feel.

Thumbs up

I appreciated,

thus, turbo lag is probable in 75% on turbine design/dimension + 10% air that feeds the turbos + 10% back pressure hot turbine + 5% gases going to the hot turbine....something like that.

and

boost response (no turbo lag... very different) will be increase for better design, which in case of GT2/non X50 IC in opposition to the EVO IC bigger volume will not affect the pressure.

now, I can clarify my inquiry

Thanks for your input …

Sorry to hijack your thread pier,

Had to say your car looks awsome!!

Are you running an et25 offset on the rear or et52 with spacers?

Thanks

Pierre,

You PMed me about the lag and I must say that you are way too concerened about lag. There will be no extra lag. You absolutely need to upgrade your IC's and hoses at your power level. Do you really want to risk many thousands of dollars in damage to your turbos and engine, because that is what you are doing w/ a stage 4 on OEM IC's.

Also, your hoses WILL pop.

You will only see a slight increase in performance but a vast improvement in reliability.

Oak,

Even running 1.2 bar with stage 4 program?
I would think one would want more efficient intercoolers, no?

msindi is infamous around these parts
I think stock intercoolers don't do with K24s...Which is why X50/GT2 have bigger ones.

Maybe you can find a pair of X50 ICs from someone who upgraded and pick those up for cheaper than a new pair...Just a thought

are you exeriencing any excessive heat soak? what is your average ambient temp when driving your turbo on boost?
