RacerX,
glad u're happy with it. i think u mean 3 in the back (while 4 in front). i don't suggest u to do 3/4. mine is 4/3 now.

Sway bars

Actually the term should be "anti-sway bars". What they do is when cornering, lets say a right turn, the insde right wheel would tend to lift up. The sway bars force the inside wheel in a turn down to make better contact.

The anti-sway bars reduce body roll in general and by adjusting either the front or rear bar (presuming they are both adjustable) you can alter the relative roll stiffness of the one end of the car compared to the other. In a very general sense, making one end of the car have greater roll stiffness corresponds to less stick at that end and more stick at the other end. There are situations where this does not follow, but it is generally true. This is the first place to look generally when trying to adjust the handling balance of the car...presuming the alignment is correct to begin with.

The shop is recommending I only replace the rear sway bar on my TT, and I understand that RUF only replaces the rear, what are the implications of a stiff rear and stock front sway bar? Does this result in the body "twisting" more?

Hey Matt, I'm planning on doing the same thing. Upgrading the rear only is a great idea, no problems. So what bar are you getting? GT3? Shoot me a PM - maybe Hans and John can do both of our cars lol.

Anyone know what the difference is between the GT2 and GT3 bars? And why does TRG sell the rear "GT3 replica" bar for like $500 when it's only a few hundred at the dealer? I must be missing something ... are the oem GT2 and/or GT3 bars not adjustable or something??

The way a sway bar works is that it doesn't allow for much travel difference between sides of the car (ever tried to bend a square with a diagonal? same principle).

I think this is a litle backwards:

When in a right turn, the suspension on the left side compresses and the right suspension decompresses. With an anti-sway-bar installed, the right side suspension will also compress in a right turn (not be pushed down). Thus the car remains flatter in a corner and response is increased. By stiffening the rear only you induce more oversteer and by stiffening the front only you will increase understeer.

this will take out the factory dialed in understeer and make the car more neutral. Many people believe that understeer is safer than oversteer (i am not one of them), so take that into account if you are not an experienced driver. Also if you never push your car near the traction limit you will probably never notice the difference.
