Short Shift Kit Installed!

I got a Porsche SSK installed by The Collection on Friday. If you haven't done it yet, it makes the car a lot more fun to drive and gets rid of the ambiguity you get with the stock shifter. Well worth the money and I would highly recommend doing it!

I strongly suggest that you have a billet shift linkage (EVOMS carries them) intalled ... otherwise, you'd be stranded on a freeway somewhere unable to shift as your OEM plastic linkage just broke ...

Saint Ari,

Since the SSK doesn't allow the use of the link cable adjustment clip, how do you make sure that the shifter is centered when you get the billet linkage installed?

Has ANYONE on this board ever experienced a linkage failure? Speak now or forever hold your piece.

I have broken the plastic linkage 3 times. 2 times at about 2 in the morning and once on the freeway.

I got the EVOMS billet linkage and its a bit rough, but has about 10,000 miles on it it with a lifetime waranty.

Can you tell us what the dealer charged to have the Porsche SSK installed. I got a quote of about $1,100 installed. Reasonable?

$1100 installed is unreasonable.

Bumper Plugs had the B&M shift kit for $199 for awhile (do not know current
price).

Mine was purchased through Eric at BP. My total price cost + installation (with EVOMS link) was under $500. I'm in the DC area where labor rates are about $90-100/hour.

$1,100 is f'ing highway robbery, man.

Not reasonable at all. The OEM should run you $400 plus at most 2hrs.

Does anyone know if the dealer finds a b&m on the car do they void any waranties? I would like to go with the b&m but dont want to mess with the chance of the shift link breaking or even something else and them not taking care of it.

My car came with a dealer-installed Porsche SSK. I highly recommend it! My father has an 01 TT that had the stock shifter; he had the local Porsche dealer here install a SSK for roughly $700 (parts + labor).

Hell no! 1 hour labor and a $400 part if you go with porsche original.

I hear B&M is almost identical (if not exactly the same) but the $100 was worth the warranty piece of mind...
