Ford has been in business since 1903. That certainly does not make them number one.

 

But they don't tune Porsches. Yes, Ruf is expensive, but ignoring the price- which soem can do, is there really any better?

Seriously, Scott (to borrow from Dan @ Vivid's expression) what's with the Hatorade? You certainly don't want us to forget that Ruf is expensive. Maybe you should commit one more post to that fact. Good thing that the rest of the Porsche tuning industry is SO inexpensive .

 

No haterade at all, Silver. I've complimented RUF many, many times before on this forum. I think they're a great company that creates fabulous cars.

However.....when someone posts "RUF is number one. Period"...I reserve the right to disagree. In terms of performance, they happen to NOT be number one. Or at least they haven't proven that they are as far as I'm aware. The only thing I agree with IRT them being "number one" has to do with the price of their modifications and cars. Honestly, had it not been for Gustav's unqualified claim...I wouldn't have said a word.

Just because I don't agree with you or Gustav that RUF is number one, does not mean I'm hating at all. Should someone that doesn't believe Proto, UMW, or EVOMS to be number one, be called "hater" as well?

 

Never claimed that Ruf is number 1. Be careful not to group me together with Gustav. To say any tuner is #1 in my book is foolish and juvenile and never a claim I would make. I was simply referring to your harping on Ruf's pricing structure. Just seemed redundant, that's all.

I also think it's ridiculous to criticize a Porsche tuner for being overpriced, considering how much $$ people **** away on their (non-Ruf) modified cars (as Markski so graciously recognized). With a new Ruf, at least you get some factory support and a limited warranty. Why is $$ spent never a criticism for the guys pushing 800+hp that blow motors and have to start all over again?

I agree. None of the tuners are cheap. That's the way it is with these cars. But yes, my personal opinion is that RUF charges far too much money for their cars and modifications. RUF quoted my friend $105k for an RT-12 engine. 650-700 HP for $105k?! To me...warranty or not..that's outrageous. But that's only my opinion. I'm sure many others don't share it, and I'm fine with that.

 

I think u guys are arguing about stupid things.... But I did find out that a RUF roll cage is something like $17K installed... I do not think any of us with high HP cars can afford that... at least not I. I have the one for $1100.

the German tuners have a different philosphy to building cars... nor is the Euro dollar cheap anymore... funny thing is that a lot of Rufs engineering parts come from our very own board sponsors... Yep that is right.

Oh, and a lot of different tuner's hardware AND software comes from other tuners. No secrets there. It's quite an incestuous little community. And our board sponsors aren't safe from it either.
