Help! Not reaching full boost!!!
Help! Not reaching full boost!!!
Hi Guys,
My car has a GIAC ECU /w Bailey DV's and it doesn't seem to be boosting fully.
Normally my car boosts to 0.9-1.0 Bar. (0.9 Bar in lower gears, 1.0 bar under WOT in 6th gear).
After I got a boost leak, the dealer looked it over and found a loose intercooler hose which they re-attached. They said they checked all the other connections and didn't find any other leaks.
It seems that I only boost 0.8-0.9 Bar now vs. 0.9-1.0.
Is it my imagination? Could it be because of the hotter weather?
Does anyone have any suggestions on where else they could look? (Maybe it's a DV that's not seating properly? (is that even possible?)
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
KJ

It well may be due to the hotter temps....
the only realy way to check a boost leak is to actually do a boost leak test....
visual inspection is not good enough....

How long should it take to run a full boost leak test?
Are all the "joints" where things would normally leak easy to access? Or is it like changing the plugs (i.e. a Pain in the ***)?
Thanks,
KJ

So I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and put it back on. The car drove fine and when I boosted, the power came on good and I hit 0.9-1.0 bar in 3rd gear easy. Then when I went to boost again, the car would only boost 0.4 bar which sounds like the dreaded "limp mode".
That being said, what could it be? I had this problem before, so I got the plugs changed and I still seem to be having this problem. Could it be the coil packs?

I got an appt. first thing on Monday with the dealer.
So far from searching, it could be bad coil packs (I JUST had the plugs and clutch changed so I don't think it's the plugs).
Another problem it might be is wastegate failure, or a loose hose on the wastegate.
Another problem (but less likely) is that one of my DV's has dirt in it which is keeping it open (thus lowering the boost I can achieve). However, since my car is going into limp mode, I don't think this is the case.
Either way, I hope the Porsche scan tool can find something (even though I'm not getting a Check Engine Light).
I'll keep you guys posted!

alot of conditions such as astomopheric pressure (altitude) and temp have alot to do with boost levels. Esp around here in cincinnati in the fall, get a 60 degree day with 0 humidity, gain a few extra psi.
if it gets more dramatic deffinatly take it back to the dealer and check for leaks again.
