Technical gurus: type 2 (over-revs)
Technical gurus: type 2 (over-revs)
Hey fellow speeders...I have a link to this thread on Rennlist regarding type 2 (otherwise known as over-revs) ignitions. What do you all think? Can we get type 2's by beating the rev limiter on the way up? Does this make them less significant?

I would love to hear an explaination as I would learn something from this!!
If you own a TT, you've bounced off the limiter. Period.
Is it possible that your car is still accelerating slightly and pushes past redline for 25 ignitions? That's not that many at 6500 RPM. Unless my math is totally off, that's 8/100 of one second.
What's an ignition cycle?
1. a full turn of the crankshaft? I think That's 3 ignitions....
2. once cycle of ignition for all 6 cylinders? 2 turns of the crank...
3. just 25 sparks?
Either way, it's a minuscule number. I've heard the TT heads are good to 7400 RPM, with some tuners programing a 7200 RPM redline. I'm pretty sure hitting 6550 RPM for a few turns of the crank is not catastrophic.

Wross, no flame intended at all, but doesn't my testimony mean anything? I had 9 type 2 counts. I bounced off the rev limiter hard after breaking traction at the top of 1st gear. Now I have 21 type 2 counts. I posted a Durametric screen shot showing that the most recent type 2 event was in the last hour of engine operation. Nobody else drove the car in that hour, and I will swear on whatever religious object you'd like that I did not blow a downshift in that last hour. I did, however, slam against the rev limiter (6750 according to Kevin @ UMW).
Why is this hard to accept?

What's the RPM limit for a type 2 over rev? It's not hard to imagine that the car is still acclerating for a split second (we're talking x/100 of 1 second here) when hitting the limiter.
