Battery Question - HELP

Looking to replace my battery again in my 2001 996TT (it goes every 1-2 yrs due to high power stereo draw etc...). I was going to try an Optima but from searching around it seems there may be a fit issue (there are no results when I try to search for the correct optima for my car) - there's some sites that talk about a battery install kit or adapters to install an Optima? Anyone try installing an Optima battery? If so, what do I need?

If the Optima doesnt work, any other recommendations besides the OEM that may work better??

Thanks!

If you don't care as much about weight savings and want it to fit right in...get the Interstate with 700 CCA (MTP-91)...install it with their battery conditioner (this goes right on the terminals with a plug in for the wall adapter0. The one I got MTP-93 with 850 CCA is not available for the 2001... Don't go OEM on this one.

I am looking at the rennline kit.....my question to the forum is this: if I get a trickle charger for the cig lighter, and plug it in, can I remove the battery without having the car know there is no power......loose the radio settings, perhaps other stuff. It is not a big deal, but I am curious. Local mechanic said this would work. I am not sure.

Anyway, rennline had a display at the Hershey swap meet, and their stuff is cool. Many of the local racers use their floor matts.

Optima isn't so difficult to fit. You'll be glad you did. Good luck.

Yeah my local Porsche tech says that it fits in there tightly so go ahead and order so I did. I should have the Optima in a few days. I may need to construct one of those brackets or get one from you if you have them still. Though I wonder if its as snug as the OEM sitting in there. Guess we'll see.

Thanks for the info!!

They dont last for s**t here in Vegas. Typical life on the OEM's here in the desert are about 2yrs. Mine goes every year and a half or so since I've got high powered stereo system/equipment all hooked up to it too. I hear the Optimas are a huge difference and should double the life or better!

One thing I know is that they are heavy as hell. I picked up a battery from Autozone, and it was remarkably lighter, and that isn't even a battery that claims to be lighter. Just cheap.
