Flash

So I recently installed a flashed ECU and did not feel much difference in HP. What's up? Do I really need an exhaust to see a noticeable improvement? Have I gone wrong somewhere? Lots of $$ for not much.

You mentioned in a prior post that you had an Upsolute ECU. Is this thread in reference to your Upsolute flash, or did you get a new different ECU tune? How much boost were/are you seeing? Stock DV's?

Yep, it's an Upsolute flash,...did not want to talk too much trash about it as it is recently installed and who knows, maybe there is a problem. In terms of boost, I don't know.....I'm just looking for more power. Just like all of us!

Still need to install B&M, silocone F-Hose and new diverter valves.

I'm thinking that there are a few possibilities for your lack of "noticeable improvement" after you new ECU tune, including ?your car was already flashed (so the new ECU tune didn't change much) or leaky stock DV's robbing you of boost (or perhaps some other small boost leak). Most people notice a big difference after the flash, even with stock exhaust.

What peak and sustained bar numbers are you seeing?

I know EXACTLY what you mean. How much boost are you seeing?

You need billet diverter valves and an exhaust and will not be happy unless you add upgraded wasetegates or retrofit stronger wastegate springs.

I did exactly what you did, except I got a GIAC flash. I was like WTF... this isn't that much faster... unplug the exhaust and add the wastegates and you will be smiling for LONG time! In the meantime you can crank your stock diverter nuts, but save it all for one upgrade for full effect.

The factory spring in the stock wastegate is simply too weak and blows open with exhaust pressure, limiting boost and torque (especially down low). You can a get solid 1.2 BAR to redline with a tiny 1.3 Spike. Without this you will see 1.0 and 1.1 bar, but the car will boost and feel different everytime you press the gas.

My stock diverter actually blew into two pieces.. you will need that too as a reliability item.... welcome to our world.

Thanks guys, I still am waiting for the new diverter valves and F-hose kit. Hopefully they will make a difference! I'm thinking that a new exhaust might be inevitable, but I really would rather not go that far. (I say that now!) Anything else besides an exhaust that I might do or consider? If the car had already been flashed, wouldn't vivid notice?

I'm about to go out for a "barn storm" to see some of the Bar readings, I did not pay attention to them earlier.

Are new wastegates needed?

how much boost were you seeing before and after the flash?

Boost was about 1.1 before and I'm not sure now. Will check soon.

How much are new wastegates?

Add diverter valves, wastegate, exhaust and air filter and you'll don't recognize your car...

If your boost was 1.1 bar before the flash you won't see any difference now, because it was flashed before.Standard you would see only 0.8 bar and with the upsolute chip you should see 1.0 - 1.1 bar.So your car was flashed before......

I'm probably wrong about where the boost was before. I never paid much attention to it, never thought it mattered much until I began reading these strings!

Still need to add diverter valves when they arrive.

Diverter valves are not going to be flet (unless yours are already blown). The new just won't blow into two pieces...

You're seeing decent boost. Get the exhaust and upgraded wastegates (or springs) and the car will astound you.

Can I just get new wastegate springs wo replacing the wastegates? Other than that, all I have planned is diverter valves. Sounds like I might have to cowboy up and get an exhaust. Does the exhaust come with new wastegates?

Exhaust never comes with new wastegates, but you don't need new wastgates but you need new actuators with stiffer springs..Stock actuators can't hold boost above 1.0 bar..

it sounds like you probably already had a flashed ecu which means you were already boosting over 1 bar which explains why you aren't feeling much of a difference. flashing a stock ecu w/o upgrades should provide a very very noticeable difference.
