Fabspeed exhaust

Does anyone have a fabspeed installed on their TT X50? If so, do you like it? Any issues? HP gains? What might be a better exhuast to pick up, if any?

From what I've read and heard (sound clips on the net), the Europipe is the best. Expensive, but the best.

I plan on getting a Europipe, but in the interim I settled on a Remus unit that I managed to find at a local Porsche dismantler.

If you're in the market for a fabspeed, I would keep your eye on ebay. There was recently a used fabspeed unit that sold for ~ $600

I recently bought the Gen 3 exhaust direct from Fabspeed. They installed it for me. Took extra care to make sure everything worked out. Actually stayed late that night to do the install on the spur of the moment. Called afterward to make sure all was well. So, the customer service is commendable, and all people were good people. The owner, Joe, is a good guy too. In terms of performance, I did my software upgrade and intake first , and noticed a tremendous change. Then, a few weeks later, the Fabspeed exhaust seemed to provide a slight improvement on turbo lag beyond that achieved with the chip an intake -- at least I think so. Boost guage was holding 1.0-1.1 very steadily, but after the exhaust I have seen 1.2 on occasion as well. So, I must be getting some hp. I think Fabspeed says 35-50hp on and X50. But, most importantly, the sound is fantastic. Startup creates a very impressive burble, and the car now sounds like it should. It is a little loud for my neighbors on start up, because I leave early in the AM, but quiets down when the car idles down. On certain streets, I can literally hear the turbos whistling now. Pretty cool. The Gen 3 design enables one to swap back and forth with bypass pipes very easily. I own them, but haven't tried them yet. Getting the three parts to the pipes to line up requires a little time, but if you are up on a lift, it is pretty easy. I watched the guys install mine in about 90-120 mins, because removing the stock parts takes a while. One other benefit is that you can actually hear your motor when wearing a helmet -- When pushing the engine, the exhaust lets you know what is happening and helps with your shifting. The drone was the big negative associated with the previous version of their exhaust. I have found the Gen three to be very reasonable. I have had a car with a 3in turbo-back exhaust where the drone was unbearable. With this system, there is a little resonance between 2500-3000 rpms, but it is hardly noticable. No passenger ever notices. Tough to beat. if you want to look at other brands, ask Joe to give you his pitch on why his product is better, it is pretty convincing.

Fab = drone. There is a reason so many are for sale used. How many EP exhausts or MILTEK's do you see for resale??? Again there is a reason.

Gunther,
Many of the exhaust systems that you mention that people are selling used are our first generation exhaust system which was loud
We have had nothing but positive feedback on our Gen 3 system with no drone issues.

You are talking about the SS and moderates. These are no longer used. The gen 3 does not drone and is a twin can design.

The Fabspeed Generation 3 does NOT drone. It sounds great, especially during cold start.

I have an '03 X50 with the older medium/moderate sport Fabspeed and it sounds awesome at WOT and when you are racing around with your buddies. Its is very loud and the lower rpm "drone" is real and can get old after awhile.
If i was to do it again, i'd probably go with Europipe or Cargraphic. I also heard a Remus exhaust the other day and it has a nice tone at WOT and is very quiet otherwise. you can actually hear your radio and cell phone.

I have a Cargraphic Loud on my 04 TT and I love it. The start up and WOT sound is great. My only issue is that I'm not sure if it's loud enough for me. My father has an early Fabspeed SS on his 01 TT and while it's loud, it definately drones.

Europipe exhausts generally seem to be the preferred way to go here on 6speed, although I myself have never heard one in person.
