On an '04 nav system I assume it's not DVD based. How many discs does it take to cover the lower 48 states? Thanks.

 

It is CD based and there are 2 discs required for the lower 48.

Stupid question, without a change I assume having the nav CD in takes over being able to listen to music on a CD ? ( I still need to get the CD(s) as well now to get mine working)

 

If you have the changer you can do both or if you have the gateway 500 you can listen to iPod with Nav CD in. You also do not need to leave the Nav CD in all of the time...it must download info. to the car somehow...only when you move out of your area do you need it.

 

I called Nav Tech and they told me there are no updated maps to be had because Porsche never re-ordered any. There is a 6 disc set for North America and each disc is $149. So either $149 for out of date maps or $1500 for aftermarket replacement with up to date and upgradable maps. Plus all the original features and DVD, if you're interested.
