My dad picked up something from the dealer about Porsche approved tires.

GT2 gets factory N rated PZero Rosso and Pilot Sports , now PS2s
GT3 gets N rated PS2s
Reg 996s get N rated PZero Rossos , Pilot Sport Ribs , Cont 2s

What is avail N rated 18" OEM size for the iconic Turbo ? PZero Assimetricos ( not the newer Rossos) introduced for the 1987 Ferrari F40 , Conti 2s ( yuk ) , Pilot Sport Ribs ( " old technology ", vs PS2 ),and old ,noisy, outdated hydroplaning Bridgestone S02A s ( not the new RE050s like on the Enzo, some AMGs and seen on the spy pics of the 997) . Can someone explain why the Turbo only rates " yesterday " tires N-rated from the factory ? Notice Pirelli has no N-rated PZero Rosso in the 295 size , Michelin no N rated 225 PS2 . It's as if Porsche doesn't want those tires as a matched f/r set on Turbos via the aftermarket .

We should en masse petition Michelin ( or Tire Rack since they are so big they have a lot of pull ) to build a PS2 N-rated 225/40-18 . ( Afterall , they have one at 235/40-18 for the OEM GT3 ). Just use the same internal construction and compound - no need for more design/engineering ! ) Michelin would wipe out the replacement market , as who would chose the current alternatives ?

20C4S, Thanks for the link, very useful.

MKW, Hopefully Michelin will release a N rated Pilot S2 225/40/18 in the near future. I've read that this is a new tire with a trickling effect of sizes being available. Anyone have a good contact with Michelin? They can find out if they plan on bringing out that tire for us!

Sorry Guys

Just spoke to one of the higher ups at Michelin about the 225/40/18 PS2. Unfortunatly, short of Porsche reverting to a 225/40/18 fittment on newer cars Michelin wont make a thing that is N rated. The PS2 is available in that size in a non N rated tire though. Basically unless Porsche asks Michelin to make that tir for an OE fittment the have no interest in pursuing that. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Then what do you guys think of the non N rated 225/40/18 PS2's?

What would the main difference be between non N rated and an N rated tire specifically?

I've got 18 rufs on a 99 C4 Cab with spacers. What size tire could I use with this setup, for you wheel/tire experts?

Thanks

N rated version may have different internal construction , tread compound , tread pattern , even slightly different section widths or overall diameter vs identically sized non-N rated tire of the same size and brand . The 225/40-18 PS2 on the market is engineered for the OEM requirements of the Chrysler Crossfire - not exactly in the handling and power league of a Turbo. Remember , the Turbo has a drive shaft up front also , so a tire has a lot to do up there .

Thanks for the inquiry with Michelin, even though it had negative results

Try your luck at getting slicks to match. Talk about the red headed step child. Bob Woodman is tougher to get in touch with then OBL. And the tires are harder to locate than WMD's
