Wire Mesh for GT2 bumper...

For those of you that have done GT2 or Tech Art bumpers etc... I was thinking of adding some black mesh to protect the radiators a little more since they are way exposed with the GT2 nose on.... Any of you guys done this too? I'm guessing I'd have to go to a DIY place and just spec it out, cut it and paint it plus bondo it or something?

TIA>

I would try a bead of silicon versus bondo...

unless the mesh is held on with multiple small screws and plastic washers, I think there will be a problem with direct blows to the mesh at speed. Mine have dented in a number of times and clearly the mesh strength is the rate limiter and not the holding at the edge. The other advantage with small screws (Gemballa does it this way) is that it can be changed for a fatal tear without cutting stuff away. However, I assume you are taking the whole front fascia off to work from the inside? Otherwise I don't think you could set the screws. Is the fascia polyU (OEM) or fiberglass (aftermarket), as I would think the screws would hold better in tapped fiberglass built up to accept the screws. I hope this helps.

Hi James, you make some good points. I'm going to have to put some thought into this... I think the best way is something that is fairly removable just in case so clips/screws would be the best solution. So far, if I recess it far back enough I can use the rubber boot....

Holy effing hell... what a nightmare that was. Needless to say, the GT2 bumper and FULL functionality was done over the course of two solid days over at Bob's house. Trust me I do not recommend you guys get a GT2 bumper and then undertake this task. It's a royal PIA but it did come out ok in the end.. I'll post some pix tomorrow.

I will do that!!! **** I'll try Rejex'ing that bad boy today and then I might be able to make your regular Thursday meet hehe... I'm for sure coming out to that next BAR drive.

Too bad I christened the bumper on the way out of Bob's garage lol... s-c-r-a-p-e. I told Bob I'm going to use ny brake pad wear sensors on the lip and then when it gets to a certian point of wear, the light will go off and it'll be time to get a new lip again.

PS I've got old wax on there, any suggestions on what to wash the car with to get rid of it? I have a clay bar but damn.... I don't like faffing with cleaning the car that much!

Alex, I have a GT-2 front bumper and had Stuart at Weissach Perf. Ltd. install the Ruf front mesh kit when they did the Ruf conversion to my car. Worked out great.

Ah any pix? I'm going to ponder a while since I do want to make something that's at least removable etc and doesn't damage the plastic bumper part. I'm fine with the rubber and other disposable interior parts behing the bumper tho...

TIA

PS Cheers Kirby. I'll do that then.
