Setting up a race with video
Wat up Luis? I will try to get one started over here, but keep having problems posting photos...getting that error message...that's why I put up the links to Pelican.
It's gonna be *****'n if I ever get it done...started the project in March, should hopefully be completed by March '08.
Lightweight + BIG HP = Orgasmic...or deadly

Ill be happy to host them for you, Ill PM you my e-mail.
Deadly...in the wrong hands.
I drove a car just like this built by local hotshoe racer, Leighton Reese.
He built it himself. 2350 lbs, 1 seat, full cage, no interior, license plates.
Based upon a 964 Turbo motor (3.3 punched to 3.4 with cams, and a very large
single garrett turbo. It was amusing at best, a toy really, but a super fun toy with only one
use, track use!!

Please understand, I mean no disrespect but I'm on some cold meds and my patience is low today. My comments in red below...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTxKuBHMn_g - not my best work but I figure I'll show you what a gutted/track-prepped P-car with race tires looks like getting yanked by a better driver with stock tires in a much heavier car.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7N3YDTMvI8 - nice vid chasing an instructor in the supercharged Lotus...oh and he had Hoosier racing slicks on.
Now compare those to this...
http://www.spdkilz.org/Video-Audio/C...vs911Turbo.wmv - one of my favorite roll-on videos
Oh, I almost forgot...may ask about your kill list? Do you have any video of said kills?
All in fun,
TomK
Ace,
I beg to differ. When you start to get to really high hp levels, roll on racing takes skill and *****-*****, yes...skill, no...and less brains...Defending roll-ons is something I'd certainly read at "CamarostangwithMulletts.com".
Without doubt, the easiest way to race is roll-ons...and it's usually the one chosen by those that have the least skill and/or those who've more power/money than skill.
Straights are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers.
You make a mistake on the track, you usually aren't risking your life.
-Perhaps you don't fully understand.... when you have enough skill to drive your car, high hp or not, on a track at anything other than "rank-novice" level, you are risking your life...forget about making mistakes.
Why do you think all those fancy race cars have cages/bars all over the place?
For example, if I am up against, say a 750 whp Supra, I still can beat him or match him w/ my 650 hp GT2. I have been in this scenario and ran such a car 2, 2 and 1 tie.
For starters, I had to be patient...he was cruising at 80, trying to draw me into the meat of his powerband (5plus K RPM)....I held back, not biting at the temptation to get drawn into his game. I finally got him down to 60 -wait, did that entail doing one of those complicated/high-skill "downshifts"??...don't even tell me you throttle-blipped downshifted...that's crazy the meat of my powerband and he was at around 4 K...thus I got 3/4 of a lentgh by the timw we were at 100....we were dead even at 160 when we shut down due to traffic.-sounds like you were gonna lose.
If he got the jump I could not catch him, but if I got just one length his 100 extra ponies could not quite make it up.-unless you shut it down just before you got yanked
Also, there are traction issues, shifting to maximize speed, etc, one mistake in any of these areas will lose the race, or worse.-I understand..that's what comes with having a high hp/tq car, however, these are all used in every other form of racing, and the reason why I believe that roll-0ns require the LEAST amount of skill.
Tell me this...what form of racing requires less skill than roll-0ns?
Roll-ons are the bottom of the barrel, most likely to cause injury to others on the road or property, only way a tallent-less driver can justify having a high hp car activity. I even give those drift-clowns more respect, as that takes exponentially more skill to do properly.
Those redneck's racing lawnmowers on the dirt use more skill than roll-on racers.
May I ask about your kill list?
Now your making it personal...
From what car? On what track?
Real world - I don't roll-on, except with someone from this board and it was to see what changes to our cars did what. We went to a low-traffic two lane/one-way road and went from 50-150/160...him in a tuned 996TT and me in a supercharged Z06. The same car I took to autoxes, Pocono Raceway, and Limerock...so I know a little bit about dealing with high hp/monsteros torque vehicles.
Oh, and to answer your question... look below...

Great story, doc!
I think that one of the reasons that our cars do so well in roll-ons is because of the way that the power comes on early and stays on. The other cars may make 100rwhp more than us, but that's only at their peak which may last only a couple of hundred RPMs, where our power stays high througout the rev range, not to mention our gearing advantage. The GT2s in particular are lighter. I love these cars!

Now imagine the satisfaction of taking a car with 100rwhp,200rwhp,etc. DEFICIT and pulling away...and no matter how much money/power that guy puts into his vehicle, he's NEVER going to catch you...on the fist try, the second try, the 40th try. Sometimes I feel bad for them and they never "get it". Get to a track and "get it"...you'll love it...I promise.
Be good,
TomK

We've got a track day planned on October 7th. It has been too hot here in AZ, but now it's on! I actually like the roadcourse better than drag racing, it's what my car was made for. I've spent a lot of time on the track and have just started instructing. With the GT700 kit, I have a great balance between power and predictability, with very little lag. I love this car!
Be good,
TomK
Tom,
Why don't you come down to Houston for the Supra nats. I did pretty well running in the advanced group last year and that was on street tires. I will be on R-compounds this year. I will purchase a Vbox or run in the same group as you. I dominated the begginer group and as mentioned was very competative with the advanced group once I ran with them. I dare say I drive at least as good a line as you.
We can run against each other there and then do a roll on at night. Since it is so easy you should beat me with no problem.
There are at least 4 people who post here on 6speed who have seen me beat a supercharged Vette (in fact the starter of this thread is one of them), run the above mentioned Supra (Nick Diep, who by the way had the 3rd fastest lap time at the Supra nats last year...Leh Keen had the fastest) and other kills. Everyone knows that I will race anyone anytime, and that includes you.
I admit, you do have some driving skill. However, since you drive an STI/Vette, you have not gone through the blood, sweat, tears, and 100 plus thousand dollars I have gone through to build what I consider to be the ultimate car: A car that can win on the track, and win a roll on race to 170 in the middle of an 11 hour drive in 100 degree heat. I read your other posts (ex meth inj.) and you are knowledgeable. But bust you *** for a few years to build a car like mine and then judge me.
To illustrate, after about 100 hours of study and research, I decided to drive my car 1350 miles round trip all the way to Harrison Arkansas....wait 4 days, and drive her back (not getting home until 3 AM). I also took me 25 years of busting my *** to afford to purchase my car in the first place. My car represents a lifetime of passion for fast cars. Would you go to such lengths just to get 60 more hp? Probably not. When I pull on your car (that is assuming you accept my challenge) it will be a result of my work and dedication, not a mullet based worldview as you assert.
In conclusion, you seem to have a large degree of technical knowledge and driving experience. I do not dispute that fact. However, you have also, in your short time here, made remarks of a personal nature against three members (TJ, Craig, and now me) who have made great sacrifices to build exceptional cars. Please don't belittle our efforts by characterizing our actions as brainless. It is ill mannered and ultimately disengenious.
Sincerely,
Sean

Awesome, good to hear you did well as handling a machine as yours well on a roadcourse is not an easy task. As for me going to Houston, I don't see that happening...don't have funds/time for such a trip but would love to share tarmac with you one day.
We can run against each other there and then do a roll on at night. Since it is so easy you should beat me with no problem.
It is easy, but with all the applied skill in the world, physics can't be overcome and the higher hp car will most often win. With that said, perhaps you've seen my current car's dyno on the meth, I will bow-out and concede the win to you.

Everyone knows that I will race anyone anytime, and that includes you.
Should the Gods see it appropriate, perhaps I'll have that honor.
I admit, you do have some driving skill a thousand thanks, I very much do appreciate that. However, since you drive an STI/Vette sold the Vete, now in STI, planning on 996TT next season, you have not gone through the blood, sweat, tears, and 100 plus thousand dollars I have gone through to build what I consider to be the ultimate car (BS&T...yes, 100large...no, I do not have the ability to allocate tht level of capital towards my car - I give you much respect for your commitment): A car that can win on the track, and win a roll on race to 170 in the middle of an 11 hour drive in 100 degree heat. Sean, I do not judge you...I just can't stand roll-on races...it's not sporting, IMHO.

So as to not deprive you of such a victory, let's try this...
I own a PBox. Buy or borrow one and run a 30-130mph run. I'll do the same and we'll have a laugh at by how much you'll beat me. Is that fair? OK?

Yes, I've had some times with a few other memebers here. However, TJ and I have exchanged PMs after the mods closed, and things were just getting fun, and have shared a "virtual beer" - another friend emerged from the fires of virtual battle.
You...I have no ill will with you, I appreciate the debate and admire your class in the execution of it. If I've presented my view as a personal insult or as a belittling of your efforts towards your build/car...well, my friend...that is not my intention and for that I'll man-up and say forgive me.
And I believe we may share another passion...tap twice if I'm wrong...
Sincerely,
Sean

Sean, FFS what kind of stupid comment is this?
You make a mistake on the track, you usually aren't risking your life.
I suggest you get someone to throw a passenger seat in a cup car (if you know someone) and get in to see exactly what a real Porsche can do on track, you will be very surprised!
Now I am being honest and not trying to start an arguement with you or fall out, but I have to agree with Tom in his replies, you have posted some silly comments above.
What the hell is going on with ppl here.

Ace,
I beg to differ. When you start to get to really high hp levels, roll on racing takes skill and *****. You make a mistake on the track, you usually aren't risking your life.
I finally got him down to 60, the meat of my powerband and he was at around 4 K...thus I got 3/4 of a lentgh by the timw we were at 100....we were dead even at 160 when we shut down due to traffic.
If he got the jump I could not catch him, but if I got just one length his 100 extra ponies could not quite make it up.
Also, there are traction issues, shifting to maximize speed, etc, one mistake in any of these areas will lose the race, or worse.
May I ask about your kill list?
