Anyone know if you put aftermarket heads and mufflers on the stock cats- will this void your warranty for any Catalytic Converter issues

 

I'm not speaking from fact, but I would guess that if you had a failed cat and aftermarket headers (I'm assuming you mean headers, not heads) that they will NOT cover. They will claim something about the headers changing the amount of heat the converters see from the motor. Again I don't base this on fact. I suggest you find a "mods" friendly dealer.

 

It depends on individual dealer. I have Fabspeed headers and mufflers with stock cats. When my cats failed a few months ago I went to my local Porsche dealer and they replaced without any problem. And I didn't had to pay for it either.

 

Good news!!! I took it to the dealer today and they covered the cat with the 8yr or 80K warranty. They didn’t even mention the aftermarket parts.

 

That's what I thought.

Good stuff... as long as the headers are stock I can't see why the claim would be denied.

 

Sharkey, based on the OP i dont't think his headers are stock, I'm a bit surprised, but impressed!

 

First I stated out with a rattle that sounded like it was a loose exhaust /bracket. Then a day later the check engine light came on. I took it to Auto Zone and the code was: P2092 Post Cat Fuel trim system too lean Bank #1. And the Exhaust Noise was on the same side. My Headers and Mufflers both are aftermarket.

 

my car is at the dealer for a similar problem.

there was a rattle that sounded like a loose exhaust or exhaust leak coming from the rear of the car.. it was very noticeable during idle and while driving with the windows down. the dealer thought it was loose exhaust clamp or loose exhaust tip... ends up being a loose exhaust clamp AND a bad cat (which they are replacing under warranty).

my car has tubi mufflers, stock headers..

i was told by my SA that they find a bad cat in every 20 cars

Both my cats have been replaced twice under warranty.

Seems though every 2 years of ownership, the cats are blown and start to rattle. As soon as I get one fixed a month or 2 latter the other one goes.

I expect them blow again in 2009.

I have headers and an exhaust and both my cats went out at different times and the dealer covered both of them under warranty
