03 996 C4S v. 05 997

I am looking at a 2003 C4S and love the car... But, I looked at a 2005 997 C2 and was shocked at the 60K price. I am interested in peoples thoughts on the two cars. The 997 seems to be comparable to the 996 C4S. This is my first Porsche and can not seem to get a straight answer. Thanks!

I don't think I could pass on the 2005 update. I think they look even more stunning.

997 C2 vs 996 C4S is tough...I think I'd go with the C4S (as evidenced by my sig).

997 C2S vs. 996C4S. C2S for sure...you may be able to find a C2S in the low to mid $60's if you're patient.

good luck.

Me too! I would pick a 997 C2S over the 996 C4S anyday. I do love the C4s for its wide body and look. It's the best looking Porsche outside of a wide body 993.

uh he said c2 (not a c2s) vs c4s. Go with the c4s... they are the prettiest of the "S", IMHO.

I JUST got my 03 C2S and did look at a 997 05. 10-15K more and not even a 4 wheel drive. BUT I can say the 05 interior is significantly more plush than my 03. Porsche redesigned the interior completely including the steering wheel which includes a TILT!! I believe the plastics in the 05 are a little better. My C4S was the perfect price point for me IMHO.

Drive them both....very different cars and buy the one YOU like the best. Power wise they are about the same....one is a 2wd the other 4wd and they will drive differently....I would do a 997 C4 over the 996 C4S, but thats about it.....I have driven the 997 C4S (Targa 4S actually) and it was WONDERFUL.....I would not mind getting that car.

The 05 997 C4S is almost 20 grand more than a 04 C4S. The AWD that you get in both cars is the same as the Turbo.

The difference between the 2wd and the awd is dramatic.

The shifter in the 05 felt like a short shifter compared to my stock 03 C4s.

The 05 I drove was a sweet machine!

I love how you guys take the liberty to expand to other models....Question at hand. 997 C2 versus 996 C4S -

Technical - Same type of power but AWD versus on 996, RWD 997 has better interior. I am not a fan of the first year of any model German or not.

Business - C2 will continue to depreciate at a faster rate than the 996, a 03 996 C4S has already taken the hit, and the C2 at 60k wil be coming down faster. Also, softer market for the 996, to obtain a better value.

thoughts?

I love my 996, but I would have to say all the 997s are a nice looking upgrade....for similar price I would take the 997....for 10-15K more (not sure if this is your price difference), I would have to think pretty hard.

C4S is classic and has more character than a 997 C2. IMHO. However if you prefer the updates on the 997 then that would be a better choice.. My interior is plush so I'm driving this car till the wheels fall off. At this point it comes down to a matter of preference... if you aren't in a hurry to purchase then like someone suggested that the 997 C2S will also come down in price and would be the overall better choice.
