Question Looking at a 2003 996 carrera 4S.

Hi,new to forums and possibley buying a 2003 C4S.I've owned and backyarded worked on 911 porsches before, and know how they should sound and look. The 80's and 90's models. This 2003 has only 18km's on it with sport exhuast/19inch GT wheels/boss stero/exion lights/mem.heated seats, very clean looking all other parts stock.Would buying warrty on it be worth it at this low of KM's on it?Can i buy a warrnty on it when it hits 40km's and then have some piece of mind.I bady drive my cars and dont race. There's also 2 other 2002 c4s's with around 50km-66km's but 10k-15k cheaper. This car i plan to keep for a long time.Have a 1980 911sc still going on 14years now, but might have to sell it now for this one.Just no room in garage and driveway if i get this car. Thanks for reply's if any.

I just bought a 03 C4S about a month ago and love it. Did not buy extended warranty on it. It on had 11,500 miles on it, never been in the rain and is mint.
I guess I'll just take my chances.

I've had my 2002 C4s for 22 months and still enjoy the morning grind to work. Love the suspension and the brakes.

Can I ask approximately what you're paying for these cars. I have a very well equipped, absolutely perfect '04 C4S with 2480 miles on it. Just want to get a feel for the market for 996's.

Excellent deal for you - considering equipment, condition, etc.

Bought my 03 C4S about a month ago. I would recommend buying a GOOD bumper to bumper warranty! I did. its 6 years and 75 thousand whichever comes first! And transferable. Bought car with 16K miles.

Warranty? Definitely! Failures in this car seem to be more age dependent than millage dependent. My car has had the RMS replaced for leakage 3 times in 36,000 miles. At a thousand dollars a pop there is your warranty paid for.

either buy a warranty, or put away $5K for when you have repairs to do.

Bought my 2003 C4S about 8 months ago with 11K miles. Purchased an extended warranty- Bumper to Bumper 5 years-60,000 miles for $3,000. Even comes with tire coverage, (pro-rated) rental car $35/day, and towing $75.00, Also read if you're outside 100 miles of your home and sometimes happens they will reinburse you for hotel and food. Max of $375.00. Buying the extended warranty is a peace of mind. Purchased at the Porsche dealer in my area. Some type of new program they are running.

i disagree. i think it's more mileage dependant than age dependant.

i don't want a car that's been sitting around. especially with this non-GT1 block.

i would be much more comfortable with a remanufacturered engine than a low mileage original engine cuz i am betting that sucker's going to have some RMS issues int he future.

good forum - I am also looking at a C4S, actually two, a 2003 and 2004. Both are being offered in the mid 50's range. Both are in excellent condition, below 30 k miles, etc. One is certified pre owned. One is being offered by the dealer, knows the previous owner, etc (but it is not the color I want) the other is by an ebay marketer...on consignment. I was able to see the ebay car in person and saw their version of the carfax. I have a couple of questions, one, the ebay car, the one I like the best, came to MN from a NJ dealer and was only here since July and the owner is flipping it already (it has been on the market for 3 months, they just dropped the price) - I am wondering if there is something dubious with this car and how I could find out. The passanger side air bag compartment is protruding about 1/8th inch and I can't help but wonder if it has been deployed in spite of a very clean carfax. How can you really know? Will the local dealer give you an honest assesment of the car if you are not buying it from him? On another subject...there are a lot of companies that sell extended warranties...who would, can you buy them from? I have owned a couple of Porshce's in the past, but always bought them new from the dealer...this is my first venture into the used car market and don't want to make a 50k mistake. Tcarho

if you're **** retentive in any way and many of us car fans are... you must must must get a preinspection by a trusthworthy, reputable independent porsche shop.

run the leakdown/compression tests as well. my reman engine was pegged perfect which gave me peace of mind.
