convertible top issues

when i try to put the top down the body cover in the rear that normally opens and allows the top to be folded under it is no longer moving up allowing the top to fold over it....any ideas why, or where to start trouble shooting?

i can get you the srevice manuals, if it is the clam shell you are talking about it has a fairly symple motor and lock mechanism. The Clam shell is the Painted cover that goes over the top with the top down.

i circled the part i am talking about, sounds like it is the clam shell, i have the service manuals, but they mind as well be written in German, and a of it is geared towards someone that has the test computer, which i dont have.

if you can just point me in a good direction the manuals are pretty good at showing the proper bolts/nuts for me to remove to the to certain parts...

ok...that is the "clam shell" so it is called...anyway in order to lift that clam shell you must bypass the lock for it manually which is located on the back in the middle...there is access to ir from inside the car and from the engine compartment. your service manual will show this lock.

I will have to talk to some tech friends of mine to get specific instructions on diagnosing the problem...will get back to you tomorrow.

You may also be able to get to the retaining clips from the inside by pilling down the interior lining where the top normally sits..that carpet is stiff...might need tome wood to hold it doun when you work.

another thing someone suggested is having the motor rewound......might be considerably cheaper since the gears are not damaged....
