Clear Bra or Vinal - ?

Clear Bra or Vinal/Leather Bra - What is best and most effective for the 996? Also where to get either choice?

I would definitely suggest the clearbra option. I have it on my honda ridgeline and bmw and will do it to the 996 after fixing the front road-rash. The clear bra will not damage your paint like a vinyl moving in the wind and if installed correctly, you can barely tell it is there. You should call your local dealer and they can tell you who they use for them. 3M makes them and mine are from Ventureshield (lifetime warranty) http://www.ventureshield.com/dealers.asp#Results

I had a Porsche bra on my Boxster and the hood portion left very fine scratches on the hood at the further most edge of it. I only applied the bra when my car was clean, so I suspect the scratches came from slight flapping of the bra or maybe from putting it on. The black bra takes away from the look of the car. I have the clear bra now, and like it so much better.

Vinyl bras look like ***, clearly. They do protect from bigger objects, but detracts from the look of the car. Clearbra or Ventureshield is the only way to go.

Thaks all for ideas:

Given the fact that I have Black Paint...anything that scratches is not what I'm intrested in. I worked to get the paint to a nearly perfect level.

So, I will seek the Clear Bra type!

I'll keep you posted...certainly a Spring time project.

Good choice. I have had the old style bras, and have stopped in the middle of a rainstorm to get them off before they start to leave the dreaded scuffmark on the hood.

BTW, I ended up having both the original 3M and the Ventureshield (recently purchased by 3M) on my car. So far, I would vote for Ventureshield. Very smooth, handles curves better (according to the installer) and one neat feature--if you do get minor scratches from sand or something you can actually melt them out using a heat gun (carefully)!

JonC4S:

Yeah, you have to stick with the home town fav - 3M. But I do believe in the 3M products, Ventureshield is a new one for me.

Also - can I intall this myself. I see the dealers are getting $700.00+ to install this produce. I think with a hair dryer I can do this...or can I?

Thanks for the tip.

Good luck! I thought about home install. The hood and a couple side pieces, perhaps. The bumper? I talked to one nice installer who told me that a 996 bumper was the final test at the training school? It is so challenging that the local dealer does not even offer it anymore. However, I have seen several great pro installed bras, and am really happy with mine.

I watched them put the clear bra on my honda (very simple front end) and bmw (more complicated). I wouldn't try it myself at all. It is much more difficult than applying window tint or vinyl decals. These are custom cut to fit the vehicle and there is not much margin for error. $700 is a bit steep - I think my guy charged a flat rate of $495 for any vehicle.

mathism:

$495.00 any vehicle? Ummmmm that might be in my price range. What part of town is you guy in? As you can see I'm in the NWB.

I'll have to look it up to verify, but it was in that range. The guy also does window tinting, etc. PM me your em and I'll send you his info. I don't know if he goes to Cary. I think he came to me (Lindenhurst) from McHenry.
