Air Bag Light

Just installed my newly acquired Sport Seats and reuse the same belt buckle - the seat belt light goes off after starting but the airbag light stays on? Do I just need to disconnect the battery and let the system reset since I did not disconnect when swap or a trip to the dealer is a must to reset?

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

No, the light will remain on and needs to be reseted by a dealer or a durametric software. Disconnecting the battery will not reset the light.

Man - now my Check Engine Light just came on. Are these related? More reason to get the system scanned now I guess

It's great to have a good relationship with my tech rep. Last Sat. my friend & I installed new steering wheels. We unplugged the airbag and forgot to plug them back before hook up the battery terminal. Both cars got airbag light. So we drove both cars to our local Porsche dealer and had them turn off with no charge.

air bag light and cd player

I ejected and then put in another cd without the key in. when I started the car I had the air bag light. I checked on a code reader and nothing came up, so there was nothing to reset. sounds like I'll need to go see my local mechanic who has the computer software to clear the light. anyone had this situation come up?

What "code reader" do you have...unless it is durametric, PST2 or PIWIS you will not be able to read/reset the airbag codes. Those cheap code readers are exactly that

yep, you're right. I'm about 4 hours from the nearest dealer, but have a really good and experienced Porsche mechanic local. I've "invested" a lot in his shop over the last near 20 years.

Used a "reader" at an open gas station today, and almost bought one for myself at the Napa store. But...I'll be checking in with the real mechanic on Monday for the reset, and will buy a Durametric for myself.

Seems I'm not alone in the airbag light department. Lots of threads here and on Renntech. Until I got my C4S I'd be saying.."what's an airbag? we don't need no stinkin' airbag light." but I'm into the electronic car world now. thanks for the reality check.

checked in with the regular mechanic today, and even his equipment could not pick up the airbag light. purchased Durametric stuff , and "Durham" at Durametric was just great to talk to and very knowledgeable.

Did you ever resolve this? I had the airbag light come on about 1/2 year back. I brought it into the dealer and they said there was a TSB on a ground wire for the seat belts (I'd have to check the paperwork to be sure). I had to pay out of pocket for the fix.

got the Durametics installed, and cleared the air bag light. hope it lasts.... I haven't checked the fault codes yet, 3 for supply voltage, and 46 for belt buckle driver. I still think it all has to do with taking out and putting in a cd with the key out and seatbelt not buckled.

ps: we've had 4 German cars and love them, but this situation does seem a bit too much.

any ideas re the fault codes?

Sorry, can't help with the fault codes but I did find this link:

It is exactly the fix that was performed on my car.

My light came on this morning. So its the seat belt buckle? Kinda confusing IMO

I read both threads on this and I have no clue what to do.

Can this be cleared by my local guy or will it just come back? Do I have to replace my seat belt buckle?
