OK! I guess I can help you with this too. Call or visit Hergesmeister in Lake Forest. Ask for Linda, Eric or the big man himself Mark. Best experience you will ever have from a excellent indy. Tell Linda that Peter from Westminster recommended.

i did it myself.

change cabin filter, oil, oil filter, air filter, flush brake fluid (every 2-3 yrs), inspect brake wear, inspect suspension, belts, oil leaks, inspect coolant level. pretty much it... with exception of brake fluid flush, the rest can be done in about 1 hr. not hard at all.

renntech.org has more how to. dealer will charge $700 on average. if you can find someone doing the full 30k (not just an oil change) for $400, that'd be good deal.

JP,

Currently, I don't know how much they're charging for the 30K serv. Ask for Linda, she is the Boss beside Mark (husband). Tell her that Peter is recommended. GL!

Depends on the year and how old the car is.

For prior to 02, about 1k since you need to do plugs every 30k. If your car is 02 and newer and has had the plugs changed in the past 4 years, then about 700 for the 30k service.

On 02 and newer plugs are by mileage of 60k or every 4 years which ever comes 1st.

How does servicing outside the dealer affect the factory extended warranty?

I just pulled a 45K on a buddy's friends car over at his shop. The easy part about that is that plugs are not needed. 30 & 60K plugs are where the labor goes up. 45K required a brake fluid change but that wasn't any problem with a lift.....

Bring it on by, I'll help you out, I'm sure I can save you a ton of $$$.....

Should be the air/cab air, plugs, oil, check maint items and basic etc.

This is by far the best advice in this thread.

You'll save yourself a TON of $$ plus you get the added satisfaction of knowing HOW to do things yourself.

If anyone in MI wants to have the 30K or 60K services done on thier 996s I would be more than happy to help out. I have a lift and cold/warm beverages.

With the MI weather this year...that is the 2nd best advice in this thread! However, I would have to charge more than the dealer for services to offset the cost of living difference and the loss I would take on my home here...you can't GIVE away a house in MI right now.

However...if you have a spare bedroom....

I also love to work on my car, but for now I can only do oil change and brake pads, but with good DIY instructions or a teacher around, I can possibly do more Cheers,
