Brake Upgrades
Brake Upgrades
Does anyone know if the GT3 (red) Calipers fit directly on to a 996 C2. I assume that the rotors must be changed but i am trying to figure out how to do a brake upgrade while retaining the original look and not swaping out the wheel carriers.
Any advice and or instructions are greatly appreciated!!!

the GT3 calipers dont fit a regular 996, both cars are narrow body (996GT3 and 996C2) the difference is the wheel carriers, the mounting points of the calipers are different..if you want to upgrade your brakes juts get better pads (porsche performance or others..) and flush the system with some good quality brake fluid). you will get all the braking power your car needs..
The 993 Big Reds should fit your 996C2 with a small adaptor (call Sharkwerks or GMG).
Be careful as to the reasons to change out your calipers. The "big reds" offer less brake fade from heat, but do add a good bit of rotational weight to your car (bigger calipers = bigger rotors). The main reason most folks upgrade is for track purposes (heat being the factor), not for "stopping power". From an asthetics point of view, most folks just paint their calipers the color they want.
One last idea for you that worked for me. I was getting a good bit of brake fade, even with aftermarket pads. I switched the front rotors to the 2-piece Performance Friction Brakes (PFC) DirectDrive rotors ($750) - same as they used on some of the earlier cup cars, used PFC pads ($400) and installed stainless steel brake lines. Then added the GT3 Cup brake difusers (about $250) and now have minimal fade at best and great stopping power.
Hope this helps.

+1 for Eli.....in the calipers.
Just did a brake job...new rotors and mintex red box pads...what a difference...it turns out that the previous owner put cheap textar pads on...
Much stiffer pedal...next is the S/S Brake Lines
Does anyone make brake ducting to cool or am i better off using those GT3 Diffusers from suncoast??

best bet is to paint your current calipers (many threads on this) if you want the red color, but for actual performance gains, swap the pads to a more aggressive compound (even race Pagids, but watch out for the noise!) and upgrade your fluid to ATE Super Blue, or Castrol SRF if budget permits.
You should just paint yours Red. I am also looking at painting my brake calipers red too, they look a lot better. Right now I have OEM black color calipers which are too plain looking. There are a lot of people on RL that painted theirs "Red" and you cannot tell the difference between their in OEM, at least not with my eyes
Sure you can put GT3 brakes on your NB. FVD makes a kit using GT3 calipers with a custom mounting kit.
