Audio Sounds Bad!!
Audio Sounds Bad!!
Im sure this question has been answered before but the sound sucks in my car i have the stock speakers and stock amp with a new pioneer head unit.I have spliced into the factory harness to make the amp and speakers work but you have to turn the radio all the way up to even get it loud but even then it sounds bad. Is there a way to bypass the amp and use the speaker outs from the radio like a car with no factory amp. Also if thats possible can i do it without running new wires ? I have a color coded diagram of what wire is what like the amp power, amp ground, front and rear speakers someone get me some info thanks......
did you splice in the RCA leads from the pioneer head unit or the powered speaker leads?
sounds like you are under-driving the factory amp.
You need to splice in powered speaker wires to the factory amp. The factory amp's input is "hi level". Basically, the more juice your aftermarket head unit puts out through the speaker wires the better it will drive the factory amp.
I installed a kenwood DNX7100 and it rocks 2x as good as before, with factory amp and speakers.

Yea i went from the rca's in the back of the radio to the splice into the factory harness for the amp i mean it doesnt sound that bad i might just have to just go with a new amp and speakers eventually
no!!!

You are sending non-amplified low voltage signal to an amp that needs a high-level input! This also creates an impedance mismatch that causes crackly distored sound.
Remove RCA splices ASAP and replace with the powered speaker leads from the pioneer. Then crank it, come back here and tell me how happy you are

So go from the radio speaker outs and not the non-powered speaker rca outs? Haha if it's that easy to fix the problem i will cheer the damn guy at crutchfield told me to do it that way he should be shot haha
Sounds like either your splicing is bad (did you use a harness or just tap into the stock wiring?), or a setting that needs to be enabled on the new head unit.
How do you have the new HU running to the amp? A lineout converter may help...

looks like I was about 15 minutes too slow at typing...

I got a wire harness for the radio but as well all know the stock radio has two harnesses the smaller one is the one a spliced into for the amp power amp ground and the front and rear speakers

Yes, just use the speaker-lead outputs from the pioneer, it is that simple. You don't need anything else.
Didnt get a chance to do it today but tomorrow is another day, before i do it though i know i am running the speaker outs right from the radio to the speaker wires am i still using the power and ground for the amp or should i just not use them?
If everything is turning on / off properly, just swap the RCA connections with speaker wires and that should be it. don't mess with anything else.
Hmmm.....does this have to do with the age of system? My 99 with hifi upgrade is wired to amp out (not speakers) of an Alpine 9856. Sounds great and doesn't take too much on volume ****. I also switched out the fronts with some imported Pioneers. It is also import to remeber that the amp only drives the door speakers if you fader is balanced front/rear.
