My K&N Experience
My K&N Experience
I took my 996 up to my buddies house about 2:30 today with the K&N filter I bought from Vivid Racing like two months ago. First off, boo to K&N for the packaging. Given the size of box they used they're no reason whey they couldn't have pre assemblemed some of that kit. It took a solid two hours of putting it together before it was ready to go in the car and the instructions are not what I would call "detailed". Enjoy the camera phone quality pics. But when it finally went in the car and the ecu reporgrammed itself holy mother of allah what a great mod! The car sounds soooo alive and the response when you get in the car is much much better.
In looking at the prices of other "go fast mods" this has to be the best bang for the buck. I think the keys to a successful install are:
- Follow the instructions to the t
- Go slow...don't rush the job
- Have the standard tools ready - allen wrenches, drill, screwdrivers, etc etc
- Don't be intimidated by all the bad things you have read
It seems the car figured out the new airflow quickly. At first I wasn't impressed but on the 20 mile drive home I really noticed the change and so far so good. Honestly I don't see myself spending $1200 for an exhaust to get another 8-11 hp so this could be the only go fast mod the car gets and for $250 I'm damn happy with it. If Vivid has these for $250 shipped again you'd be silly not to pick one up.

I install the same system last week. I agree the box should have been prefab. I think they should have made that cheap plastic tubing a little better or at least chrome it out. Took me about 4 hours. 1 hour of actual work and 3 hours of beer and smoke breaks. It was fun
I was going to ask someone about that...is it worth the $1000 or so?

Logically the plenum makes sooooo much since. The question comes from if a NA engine compared to a forced induction benefits the most from it.
I was convinced until just the other day. When Todd a tuner posted his shops finding on their dyno of a stock 997s.
His post was one of the better written test cases of the intake. They were testing it out to be able to endorse and sell it. At the end, they felt there was no gain on a NA with it. They were giving 2 separate intakes to test to make sure there wasn't a flaw.
I think for me since I have GHL pipes......my performance steps will be
K&N CAI
then a flash (probably softronic)

i've heard this exhauset and it's got a great note. You'll enjoy it
yeah the KN was one of the best mods I've done to date. better response and LOVE that intake growl- but it is still quiet on idle and cruise with no drone. The box assembly is a PITA... I don't see why they made it such an "erector set".. lol .. but for the $ you can't beat it.
The Agency Power mufflers work well with the KN and sound good once they have burned in.

Mine is loud for about 3 seconds and then mellows out to a regular idle.
Thanks.
No not really- Unless of course the cold idle kicks in at startup and the rpm's are higher- Then of course it would be a tad louder. maybe that is what you are referring to?
