I was told your typical "octane booster" raises your octane something like .1 (89.1)

Dont do it

There are actual mixes u can run but it wont be cheaper by any means I would say

If the spread between mid (89) and premium (91-93) is only $0.15, and your tank is 16.9 gallons, the extra cost is $2.54 to fill up with premium. I have not seen any octane boosters that could give you 2-4+ for under $2.50.

You are driving an expensive/impractical sports car that gets so-so mileage and usually calls for a heavy foot. It costs more to fuel, repair, and drive. If you are really worried about 5 dollars per fill-up (which equated to 150 dollars a year for most drivers,) I recommend another daily driver.

I drive my Porsche for pleasure only, I drive a diesel pick-up for most of my driving, have you seen the diesel price per gallon lately, I don't mind paying 93 prices for pleasure driving.

You probably don't want to try this experiment on your car, start with something simple and cheap to fix if it does'nt work out, like a John Deer!

there are ways to boost octane (toluene), but make sure you know what you are doing. i'm not sure you will save money doing it properly. as said above most OTC boost additives give you very little for the money.

the sc wont affect your mileage much as a DD... DD @wot with a sc on the other hand will.

as others have said, those boosters don't raise octane level by much. they all say 103 octane or something outragous.

your engine should retard timing for lower octane at the expense of quicker wear on plugs and less performance. it shouldn't damage engine but i am not about to try it on a $10K engine !!!

if you commute a lot, look into public transportation, carpool, or a daily driver like a Honda that gets 30+ mpg easily. A beater 10-14 yr old car like an Integra costs only $3k to have which is just a bit more than a set of tires for your Porsche.
