supercharger rpm cutout ???

do your evo superchargers cut out at 7k. my computer seams to limit me at 6950 or so, in every gear. wondering if i need dyno custom tuning for my computer or is this cutout limit normal.??

i thought i would gain a few revs with the new ecu..

otherwise enjoying supercharger very much.

your thoughts please.

note: i havent called todd z on this yet.

My friend's '99 had the rev. limiter set at 6800 rpm. This was car #1 installed by SCarGo. When we tried out the car after he got it back we both bounced against the lowered rev. limiter. We were not happy campers!
I think it's safe to say as 996 owners that we are very familiar with our cars, how they rev., when it'll hit redline and when to shift without looking at the tach. I was punching it hard and didn't know about the 6800 rev. limiter and hit it just as I was shifting from 1st to 2nd. It was very disorienting because I bounce against the rev. limiter right when I was shifting.
When I had my S/C installed, I gave very explicit instructions to leave my rev. limiter at 7200!
My friend since had the ECU shipped back to EVOM for reprogramming. It's not quite at 7200 because he has a '99 with a manual throttle and I have a '00 with e-gas. He gets 6950 in 1st, 7050 in 2nd, 7100 in 3rd, he has not tried it in 4th yet.
Even with the slight rev. limiter increase in 1st, it was a big help because 6800 seems like such a natural shifting point.
Prior to my friend installing a S/C, he went the whole route of installing a cold air filter, new headers with free flow exhaust, 100 cell cats, wide throttle body, modified ECU, etc. at a fairly significant cost relative to the S/C. The car was never dyno with these mods but the butt dyno was not too overly impress. i.e.- could not feel the purported 25-30 HP increase of the mods but you can easily feel the HP & torque increase of the S/C. This follows the forum threads that the naturally aspirated 996's are pretty much tweeted from the factory. For him to go the S/C route he took some loss from his earlier mods of approx. $380 for air intake and $1,000 for the ECU reprogramming (not counting tax & labor).
He still has the headers, 100 cell cats, free flow exhaust, wide throttle body and should make interesting numbers with the S/C when he get it dyno.

Hello, I just wanted to clarify a few things. The rev limit is set at about 6900 RPMS. We do this b/c with the centrifugal type of supercharger, they generate more boost as the RPM's climb. The difference between a 6900-RPM limit and 7200-RPM limit is about 1.5 PSI of additional boost. To keep things safe, we have lowered the rev limit to prevent the boost to go beyond 6 PSI total for safety and longevity. We could keep the rev limit at 7200 RPM's however we would have to increase the pulley size, thus lowering the max boost to 6 PSI. This increase in pulley size would reduce the low to mid range power. There is a trade off either way or we chose this route to give the best of both worlds. Hope this information helps.

What pulley size is used to produce the 6 psi?

As Todd said, I don't think the rev limit was reduced to lower the enjoyment of your car. Its pretty bloody obvious that with a S/C running that unless you limit boost, you damaged engines. Unlike the roots blowers of, day, the TPC system, the centrifugal blowers really generate boost as revs increase. Todd has rightly kept boost to 6 PSI.

It'll likely happen eventually since it's illegal to sell SCs in CA without it, but like the other poster, I'm curious as to when.
