deep water crossing...possible engine damage?

i drove through a deep puddle of water during a severe storm today. the car didn't complain at all.
but i once had a Saab engine throw a rod a year after driving through a similar deep puddle situation.
now im worried.
do you think any water could penetrate a 996 block through a gasket?
would an oil change eliminate any concerns?

If it left a water mark up to your rear foil then worry, if not forget about it and keep on motoring.

if your really worried, change your engine and tranny oil....if it is going to mess up your engine that is how it would do it.....

unless it digested water, but you would know that immediately

No worries, if you didn't hydrolock it, it's safe.

Hey Bruce!

I know what you are talking about! yesterday was crazy around miami!
The problem with deep water is the air intake getting submerged. I don't think water can get thru the gaskets and so. If the car is running fine, I think you are fine... but this is the internet, so I guess a bunch of stories are going to start flowing.
good luck! joel

Check to see if your air filter is wet. If yes, change it. If not, I doubt you will see any problems. An extra oil change can never hurt - the cheapest maintenance you can ever do.

The is no way water can get into the engine or gearbox without the engine being completely submerged, so the fact that is is running puts you in the clear.

Play it safe and change the engine oil.

My brother drove our pickup through a deep puddle of water years back. The engine ran fine, according to my brother, for a few more days then blew a HG. We drained the oil to find coolant in the crankcase. Disclaimer* My brother's term of 'fine' is that the truck still moved even if it was limping around.

The coolant in the crankcase likely pre-dated the deep puddle.

If your feet did not get wet, neither did the inside of the engine.
