Post Your High Mileage Porsche
2002 911 cab, daily driver in the summer
2005 Audi Allroad daily driver in winter, and when I need a "SUV" in the summer.
For me at least, the purchase price of my winter "Beater" was higher than the purchase price of my 911 bought used.
My opinion is that the 911 is a great daily driver, but up hear in the NE, for the spring, summer, fall only. As long as there isnt any snow on the ground, I would much rather drive the Porsche than any other car I have ever owned, and lets face it with the depreciation race happening to these cars, It isnt even very expensive to buy a good used one any more. Hey, you can buy a good used 911 for less than a new Accord.
So my vote DD ++++++++++

I perfer Garage Queens, and like to keep them that way, I plan to keep it for a long time and would like to buy a 930 turbo and a 89 or older 911, hopefully low mileage cars. I bought my car as a pleasure car, I own it and insurance is $49.25 per month. I get a smile on my face when I walk in my garage by just looking at it. I am semi-retired and live on a cattle ranch, pickup trucks make better sense for me. I agree with Ben on most of his statements, and I think everyone here will agree he has one of the nicest 996s here.

yeah but you quoted Paris Hilton in your sig. Holy ----!
Just kidding. Seems to me , you can drive it as a DD if you want to and if your circumstances allow. If not, some people here like to preserve/collect cars and that's pretty sweet too. What I take from the thread is that if you wanted to, the 996 is capable of being a DD, so long as you aren't driving in snow/rain ( which I am not BTW, I live in the desert).
BTW, how come people don't like to drive these cars in the rain? Does the tail go out very easily in the rain? I ask because I know people that drive RWD cars (BMWs, Mercs, Pontiacs lol)in the rain safely and was wondering if there was another reason besides RWD,
You had an s2000? Right on. Do you think the s2k and your 996 are similar at all in driving characteristics? I found that the s2k was just too "hardcore" ( lol, I'm not sure if that is the right word but it's a driver's car and I'm sure you know what I mean) for me.
I'm hoping the 996 is a little easier to live with ( again, that can be relative as well) and that it's not as track-focused as the s2000. The s2k just kicks my *** every time I drive it , my roommate has one and he loves it, but he also bought an Element so he needn't have to drive the s2000 everyday
.

.i've written up my review of the cars i've owned in other sites i forget where so i'm too lazy to post it. all i gotta say is the s2000 offers up things that the 911 can't and vice versa. would i ever go back? sometimes i'm tempted, but i'd regret it because the 911 is simply more grown up and gives you that sense of history and pedigree that no other car can begin to measure up.
i'm no 911/porsche snob.loyalist though. i love all types of cars. but they gotta be MINT.

driving my 4s in the rain sucks . heck even in the dry in a turn i can make it squirem and get psm to engage. on wet slick roads, it's physics that take over. people who say it feels rock solid... think about what they're really trying to say or can't say.
my jeep feels rock solid in the rain too. wtf.

911s can be driven everyday if you want to used them that way. It depends on what you want the car to do for you. There is no reason to believe they cant be used to commute daily....AGAIN, if thats what you want it for. Commuting with it has its benefits, you gain the ability to drive a fun car everyday. But you lose something too...you lose the feeling I get every day I come home from a long days work and open my garage door to see a pristine ride that hasnt seen rain, snow, traffic, daily wear. In each instance, you gain something and lose something. For me, it would never feel right to drive my car for errands or something like that... almost like wearing a suit to mow the lawn. It depends on what your intention are with the car.
-but to stay on point...can the 911 be daily driven?? I say hell yes..Im sure Porsche considers the 911's daily usability a high priority.

agreed....I know many people that literally feel GUILTY driving their cars for little errands.
At the end of the day use the car for what YOU seek enjoyment out of. That is the point of it.
I don't see the problem with DD'n it personally, however I'd much rather keep it as a 'treat' for yourself say for Fridays or nice days. Doesn't mean you can't take it in on rainy days either though

typical mob mentality online. the few dudes who do crap their 911 by daily driving it which absolutely does accelerate wear/tear on the car esp if you live anywhere outside of the sunshine state... all stroking each other saying go go go porsche accord....
yet nobody in this very mob will go on to admit the very truth that if they could swing it, they'd get a beater (added insurance, added parking space requirements, etc).
having two cars is better than having just one esp if one of them is essentially a two seater. period.

the 911 is more practical than only half of them.
but still gets driven every day.
GO GO GO PORSCHE ACCORD!!1
ROTFL Your jeep wouldnt feel rock solid on a beutiful sunny day.
Get with the program, there are people here who have very nice second cars (my Audi Allroad, My wifes 335xi). Who would still rather drive their "squiremy" Porsche in the rain.
Why do you feel it is necessary to tell people that what they are doing is wrong, and they shouldnt tell others about it?
It is a personal opinion, and many here have one different than you,
GET OVER IT -- you are not the porsche style police, you are not the porsche weather police

I own a 2002 996C4 cab with 68k on it.I bought in in 2005 with 30 K on the odometer.
No mechanical problems, extremely reliable,comfortable.
I started using a Porsche as a DD with my 1989 911 Targa. I bought that one with 30k on it in '93 and sold it with 125k on it in 2005. I maintain the cars meticulously, and found my maintenance was actually cheaper than my other cars. ( $1000 or so a year on the Targa/ plus rear tires every 15K and front ones every 30K )After a family member crashed their car I just decided not to buy another one, just to have it sit in the drive-way in case i needed it.
In 15 years I have had a single breakdown, when the oil temp gauge leaked on my Targa.( they fixed it for $180 including a tow and oil change - highly recommend my Music City Porsche & Audi garage! )
My car is comfortable, very reliable, incredible fun and practical.
I can pick my kids up from school ( they love it ) and have enough storage for groceries.
If I need to haul big stuff I borrow my wife's BMW X5.
I realise I will have greater depreciation on selling my car, but believe that on older cars you are better off with a higher mileage well maintained car than a car that sat around on blocks 70% of the time.
Porsches are meant to be driven!
