CA front plate "solution" ?

I know that it's only a matter of time before I get a fixit-ticket for not having a front plate. I found a possible solution while browsing through GT magazine (british) at www.eutags.com. At least it would be smaller/narrower. What do my fellow Californians think?

I wonder if they'll even accept that...

NOTE: My dad got a ticket AT LAX AIRPORT for not having a front licenseplate...total BS.

I could be wrong, but I imagine that a FAKE plate is worse than no plate?

Good point. Vehicle Code sections 4463.5 and 4464 outlaw "facsimile license plates"...

I average one no-front-bumper-license fixit ticket per year. The first time I got one, I put the plate back on and took the car to my local police station to sign off on the ticket. After the cop told me it would be a travesty to put a plate on the front of my car, he told me that he had himself taken a photocopy of his license plate, reduced it to the size of a 3X5 card, and taped it to the inner lip of of the air intake on his Miata. He said he believed that met the law's requirement for a "facsimile" plate. Since then I have taken my yearly hit, put the plate back on long enough to get the cop sign-off, and paid the $15 "processing fee." A small hassle and expense.

BTW, the reason the cops are cracking down on this, at least in SF, is that they need the number when an intersection camera take a picture of your car running a red light.

I've heard the same reason given for the crackdown, but I think it's BS. I guess motorcyles are free to run reds...

Yeah, watch out at LAX... my dad just got a front plate fix-it ticket just yesterday too!

So what do you do if you bought a used 996, and never got the front plate when you purchased it?

You can't get just a new front plate. You have to go to the DMV and get a whole new number/set.

I thought the red light cameras actually took the picture from the rear.

Get a membership in the 11-99 Foundation and the CHP will sign off on your "fix-it" tickets without even seeing the car.
