Tire gave out during a session - Video

I was at a DE this weekend, running Pilot Sport Cups and just before a medium speed right hander (just under 70MPH), the loaded rear tire (driver's side) gave out. This was the first time I experienced a car related issue of this magnitude, and it almost brown flagged the whole day. It felt like there was 20 seconds of tank slapping, but for some reason, the video doesn't look as dramatic as it felt at the time. The video looks like a simple oversteer correction - but at the time it felt like it was happening 10X faster and required so much more correction. Car was unscathed (knock wood).

I didn't have an extra MPSCup tire with me, so I ended up buying a set Yokohama Advan slicks as a temporary fix for the weekend. It was all that was around right then. Seriously. There was nothing else. Just the slicks.

Very nice save! glad to see you made it out in 1 piece (well, minus the tire!)

That had to be pretty fun! Blowing tires on the track sucks. I had a front go on me under hard braking going down from ~110mph at Buttonwillow. Glad everything turned out well for you given the situation!

No idea what happened. In fact, the tires were pretty new still with over 50% tread left. This was my 2nd event on them. I don't think it was a temp/pressure issue, as I'm pretty diligent about maintaining them.

The Pilot Sport Cups are pretty reliable as a track tire, so I'm gonna have to say this was sheer luck - good or bad, it all depends on your outlook. I DID find a set of racing slicks to replacement the MPSC tires
