Protecting front bumper

hi all,

I'm thinking of installing a TA-look front bumper. My current car (2002 C4S) is lowered, and the stock front bumper scrapes easily against humps and going down slopes. I am wondering if anyone out there has practical ideas or cheap methods (for eg, installing easily replaceable plastic front splitters) for protecting the base of their front bumpers.

Thanks!

the problem with splitters i have found in the past is that they usually cost a lot so that you want to protect them as well! LOL

That's not bad but it's not cheap.

that thing is 1/2 inch thick. so it descreases your ground clearance by 1/2 inch, so you're gonna scrape even more.

yeah you'll protect the piece underneath, but in its place you'll just have this ugly scraped up piece of plastic over it.

Scraping happens. I scrape now with a stock bumper. Next week I'm putting on a GT3 bumper with a lip. It will scrape more than it does now. That's life and there's no avoiding it unless you have stock suspension in which case you probably won't scrape. But who wants that?

And as cautious as I am one is still not safe even with that stock suspension.
I try my best and that's all one can do.
The fact that one can't even see it allows me to get over it soon after I vent for a minute or two...
Just part of ownership I guess

Ha.. At least it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one with this problem.. Well, guess we got to live with it then!

Maybe use some DIY spray paint to touch up once in a while will do the job?

there will be no way around bottom scraping. im considering getting an ugly black vinyl old-school bra for the front end though (I'd put it on only for vegas and SF road trips). ugly as hell but it'll prevent rock chips at least for the covered areas.

anyone know where i can get one of these for a 996?

Sorry, the stock suspension comment didn't come out right. That's a matter of personal tastes and what one wants out of their car.
