Do Litronics wear out?

I think my headlights on my '99 aren't as bright as they should be. As I drive along and "compare" them to other cars with "HID's" next to me, mine don't seem as bright. Everything seems to be working and the lenses are in great shape. Am I just seeing things (or not seeing ) or are the lights loosing intensity?

xenon bulbs do lose their brightness over time. but the diff. you are seeing is most likely in diff. headlight projector design. acura TSX and honda s2000 projectors are known to have the sharpest cutoff out there while bmw gets the best beam pattern from their projectors. 996 projectors are a nearly 10 year old design, i'd rank them average compared to what was offered at the time. below avg compared to whats offered now (but thats an apples/oranges comparison imo)

Can I change out the "bulbs" and would I see an improvement if I did?

Had a A6 that I put a lot of miles on. I noticed reduce output and turning more yellow. I think new bulbs will address.

I will agree with the other statements about other cars being brigher. But I also think the cutoff line is too low on the 911.

Yes they do "dim" over time. Throw in a set of new 6000K bulbs and you will be pleased.

if your bulbs have never been changed i'm sure you'll see an improvement, but will it be as bright as say, a new bmw's hids? i cant guarantee that.

gl with the change if you decide to do it. what you could do is change out one bulb and turn your headlights on and see if theres a diff

Good idea, but I might as well change both out and keep the old as spares if I go to the trouble. Anyone know the cost of the bulbs?

prices range from about $90-$200. search the internet and you'll find many sources. i'd stick with a name brand and would definitely stay away from the stealer......

lol i'm sorry i gave that suggestion assuming you'd change the other bulb out once you'd seen if there was a diff or not i meant change one, turn the lights on, take a picture or something, then swap out the other.

My bad! Took it as change one and see if it worked better, if not, take it back out. Should've read into it more LOL!

do litronics need a new balast? mine seem bright enough but seem to need a few minutes to fire up compared to when the car was new?

i would think when a ballast fails, it fails completely.

Have you replaced your bulbs? they maybe tired.
