Squeaky noise from C4 Cab behind driver....(top??)

Ok my perfectly quiet C4 Cab now has a squeek. It happens on just about any bump....Even some of the lane dividers on the freeway. I can't tell exactly where it's coming from, but behind me and it sounds like the top...maybe its even farther back, but I can't tell....HELP it's driving me crazy! Any ideas?

with the hardtop on, it's normal to hear the squeaking noises

can you remember if the same sound was present with the soft top?

Try this: (I did this on my '99 996 Cab, but not yet on my C4S Cab)....

Open the rear boot while the top goes down about halfway. Get out of the vehicle and take a look under the boot cover. See some small rubber spools? They should be threaded. Turn them one full turn one way or the other. See if that does it. If the problem gets worse, go back and turn the other way, two full turns. Keep working on it.

Thanks Eric and Erik...but my car has 62K and it has ABSOLUTELY noise inside...I opened the top and tried to move some of the parts to see if I could make it do that and I couldn't, BUT once I raised the top completely, the squeeks went away...So don't know what it was....

There have been a couple of TSBs on hard top squeaks. Don't know if they apply after warranty or not. Never checked.

Sorry for the confusion, but I don't have a hardtop, this was a soft top issue.

I had an annoying squeaking noise after only 500 miles on my '04 C4S cab. The guys on renntech.org sent me a copy of a TSB. There is a tiny rubber bushing above the driver's side which can only be reached with the top half way up. If you apply a small dab of lubricant, the squeak dissapears completely (at least it did for me). I now have close to 4000 miles and there is no noise of any kind--not including the fabulous PSE, of course!

I had the same thing on my TT Cab. I found that the boot cover was rubbing against the roof fabric (directly in the middle of the boot) and was causing horrific squeaks over just about any uneven surface. All I did was put a piece of black electrical on the underside of the black trim on the boot and the problem went away. Try driving with the top slightly down (boot slightly up). If there are no squeaks, you have the same problem I had.

I found it...It's the interior leather panel piece just below the drivers side rear window. And get this, it only does it when it's cold. Yesterday after work, was leaving late and got in the car and horrific squeeks again. this time I pulled up into a gas station and pulled the top half down and looked again. I leaned on the panel and it started to squeek. It's wear it meets in the rear by the carpeted divider behind the rear seat...I moved it around a little until it stopped squeeking, then drove home, without squeeks....I'll look into it more in depth this weekend and see what I need to do to permanently elimininate it.

Glad you found it.

In my old '99, I had a problem in that panel that was really around the bottom speaker. I went to an upholstery shop and bought a square foot of 3" soft foam. Cut it into a small piece, compressed it, and with the top half way open the flaps were up, and I wedged it down into the cavity, below the mechanicals of the top. Presto!

No leather no squeak. Get cloth.

My passenger airbag cover on the dash is rattling. Anyway to open it to inspect without triggering airbag?
