Lost after many searches for Extended Warranties

I've done a lot of searches on this forum and others and I am still a little lost as to what I can get for an extended warranty.

Here's my situation:

- 2003 C2 Coupe w/ tip
- 25,000 miles
- Minor mods: PSE, PSS9, K&N air filter, body kit, wheels
- Do all my own routine maintenance since I bought it 3 years ago
- Factory warranty expired more than a year ago
- No problems so far

It seems like these cars are much harder than I thought to find a warranty if it's already outside manufacture's warranty.

My favorite from the past, Warranty Direct, says on their website they won't cover it for that reason. I may try calling them and see what they say over the phone.

I am looking for a warranty that will cover the big ticket items like block issues, IMS, RMS, transmission problems. It would be nice if it covers the A/C, but that and just about anything else I can fix myself for a reasonable price. I just don't want to be stuck with $12-15K for a tranny or engine.

Anyone have any experience with a good warranty that meets these specs?

Thanks!

Wow, I didn't know I had to get the extended warranty while I was still within the manufacturer's warranty.

I don't know where you are located. I'm in the Bay Area in Northern Cal and I called 5-6 Porsche dealers around me (ask for the finance dept). They all offer extended warranties (from 3rd parties, not from Porsche)... I ended up buying one from Porsche Fremont...

FROM ANOTHER THREAD: "for what it's worth Motortrend (10/30/2008) listed EasyCare as a 'best buy' for extended warranties. This company's best price (I just checked yesterday) is for cars with less than 25,000 miles - no $$ difference for let's say 9,000 miles or 22,000 miles on my 06 911S. Obvious conclusion is that they rate the risk of covered repairs to be the same. This has nothing to do with .............

Some dealers want to sell these and others don't. A couple real problems with these warranties: some are only good at the selling dealer except for "extreme emergencies"; trying to get your hands on the contract to read the fine print BEFORE you pay is almost impossible; none cover 'wear items' -obviously not tires or brake pads but how about a clutch?

Best bet, IMO, is to go into a dealer and talk to whomever is in charge; I generally got crap trying to do this over the phone. PM me your email and I'll forward the Easycare brochure. Good luck

Yep, The good thing in California is that you have 60 days to change your mind and get your full money back.

However, the main reason I went with Porsche Fremont was that I got access to the full contract with the fine prints before signing and I still had 60 days to study it.

Clutch is wear item and therefore not included. I would find it hard to believe that you can find one that covers it.

Oh and BTW, they didn't even want to see/check the car before we signed the deal... Bizarre...

Good luck with your search. At the end of the day, you're buying piece of mind more than a real service. I'm not expecting any of them to be stellar service and be ready for a big argument if anything happens that requires their service...

My 2 cents.

Also bought mine through a Porsche dealer, but I had a PPI done for the warranty. Covers motor, transmission and electrical. No wear and tear stuff.

ACPorsche996 is infamous around these parts
I recently had extended warranty repairs for approx $15K which included the RMS & Pistons. My out of pocket was around $1500 since the extended warranty would not cover nuts and bolts, alignment, oil replacement, etc. Purchased from Total Shield when my car had 28K miles for a total of 4 more years and 48K more miles. Only issue I had was it took forever for Total Shield to approve the repairs. I would recommend paying extra and go purchase from a Porsche Dealership.

I used Automotive Product Consultants in chesterfield, MO 888-485-4337 Paul Rieke. on my '04 Audi A8L. Their prices were higher, but they covered almost everything. I purchased their platinum package with $50 deductible. They did not cover headlights and brake pads, rotors and consumables. They paid out over $35K over four years. They took their time when I had the engine go boom at 95,000 miles. The long block cost was $12,200 without labor. Buy an extended warranty!
