harsh rides on 19's?
do 19" rims really give the car a harsh ride? i just slapped on 19 on my car and felt some vibrations accuring around 80+miles. is this norm coz' i am running lower profiles on my tires. it does not feel like the 65 shimmy, just different. i dont think its balancing either coz' i just had that done. feels like the whole car is vibrating. tks for the feedback in advance.
It's probably balancing. You need to have it done by people who know what they are doing and have the proper balancing machine.
FWIW, I think that 19" do not make sense on a 996. On US roads the 996 runs smoother on 17" but 18"are OK. PAG fitted 19" on the 997, but made the wheel diameter 1" bigger to compensate and the suspension was designed taking that wheel into account - not the case on a 996 - just my opinion, YMMV.

It has nothing to do with balancing. I had 19" Hre 540r's on my 01 996 and the ride was harsh and I could feel every bump on the road. In addition, handling seemed to have deteriorated due to the lack of sidewall thickness. I had 235/35 front and 315/25 rear. I eventually sold the wheels and bought the 18" Hre with factory spec GT3 offset to accomodate a 295/30 rear tire and 235/40 front tire and the car was very smoothe and handled much better. In my opinion, it looked much better too with more meat on the wheel, very race-like. Good luck!

Used to have a very stong vibration around 75mph in heavy rain only, but it seems to be gone as I was going 90+ in rain yesterday.
how are the ruf's that you got from goldmember, you probably need to have them rebalanced or change the tires ....
but the ride is a bit harsher on 19's over 18's , it also depends ont he tire that you have some tires ride better than others..

19's will be a harsher ride because the tires have to be inflated like rocks to support the weight of the car. Very low profile. Wether or not it's harsh is a matter of owner perception. One thing that's important (critical) is in fact the balance job. Don't even think of getting 19's without having them road force balanced with a Hunter GSP9700 - and someone who knows how to use one. You'll be back if not.
