Headlight Yellowing

My car sits in the sun most of the time. I have MY99 Litronics headlights and the glass/polycarbonate lenses have yellowed (as have the lens on our 04 Touareg) - I've tried hand scrubbing/buffing with Meguir's 3 step de-yellowing kit, and after much sweat, improvement was only slight. I'm wondering if anyone out there in the sunbelt has any tips on getting these to look better, short of replacing the entire housings. Some blogs have suggested Brasso, toothpaste and glass cleaner - mind you these remeides were applied to beater trucks and hondas; what are people in 6SO community using on concours-level cars?

I had my shop buff them out. They used some wax type thing that was made specifically for oxidized headlights.

I used to work at a car dealership, I see them fix used cars all the time and for yellow headlight lenses, they fine-sand them, polish, and spray clearcoat. Viola! Looks brand-new again!
I was sceptical at first when I saw them using sandpaper(fine grit), but the result was amazing.

We are a manufacturer and distributer of headlight restoration products. Our company name is Brite Lites. Our system is two part; strip off the original protective coating (this is what turns yellow and cloudy) and replace it with a new one.

Removing the original damaged coat can be done chemically, or more commonly by sanding and polish. The real key to a good restoration is to apply a new protective hard coat after you've removed the old. Without ths protection the headlight will quickly deteriorate.

Whatever system you use, you need to remove the old coating and replace it with a new one. A good coating will last for years. Our dealers warrant restorations for 2 years unconditional and 2 years pro-rated.

I fixed this by sliding on black ice and shoving the nose of my car under the car in front of me

Presto: New headlights.
