Can bose headunit alone be replaced w aftermarket Nav?

I'm getting a 02 cab w/ Bose that does NOT have the MOST wiring.

Can the HU be switched w an aftermarket NAV like Kenwood or Panasonic without changing the Bose amps and spkr?

If so, where does the dash mic connect to on the NAV? Should I connect Nav to the input on the CR220 radio?

Actually I think it can....If he does not have the MOST system, then it uses standard audio ins...he just needs to patch into those inputs...Now, he must REPLACE the CR220, not use it in addition to a NAV system.

I do not have MOST. Can standard headunit/nav be connected to a Bose amp/speaker? Where to get the adaptors? Crutchfield doesn't offer any. Thanks

What do you mean by standard headunit/Nav...do you mean the Porsche Navigation? Or aftermarket Nav only, used in conjunction with your original stereo?. I used an aftermarket Mav/radio head unit combo, and connected it to my system, by splicing the wiring....Those wires go to the inputs of your amp....

I got off of the phone w/ Rues Audio (Jason). He said that he has an interface between the aftermarket NAV (Pioneer) and the Bose headunit. The interface will mute the music on the Bose headunit when NAV voice prompt comes on.

The Bose HU will function as usual (play your cd, control cd changer etc)

The aftermarket NAV will just do navigation, no music cd playing from the nav

You can install the aftermarket NAV w/o the interface. It would not mute the music when voice prompt comes on. The Nav has it's own little speaker for voice prompt.

There is a separate unit for bluetooth capability. However, bluetooth cannot dial points of interest through NAV command. You'll have to manually dial the number via phone.

All of the above is for either analog or MOST wiring. Appearently, the NAV is only connected to the Bose HU to mute the music.

I guess MOST is not as evil as I thought. If you want to upgrade the audio, MOST would be cost prohibitive. However, if you just want to add NAV to existing audio system, it doesn't matter whether analog or MOST.

I hope this makes sense. Rues has some bezel made for Pioneer Nav. Other than that, I think most stereo shops can do the aftermarket NAV add on.

I mean replacing the BOSE headunit with an aftermarket NAV. From my conversation with Rues, they want you to keep your BOSE HU and aftermarket NAV only mute the music when needed.

I replaced the Porsche head unit and installed a new Head unit with a touchscreen NAV system...Not sure why you would want 2 head units? Or why you would keep the stock (just ok) head unit and not get s better head unit with the NAV system?

Reus recommended that I keep the BOSE HU as it reproduces good sound since it is designed with the BOSE system. They think the BOSE HU works just as well as the aftermarket NAV sound, if not better.

I don't mind the Bose system. I just want to add the NAV without hacking into the Bose amp/spk.

I suppose Reus's recommendation is based on minimal hacking since they stressed on the ability to remove it when you sell the car.

basically reuss is just adding on to the bose setup. you still can't replace the head unit on a bose system. it just won't work. bose has a funky amplifier/speaker impedance system. it's not compatible with anything but the factory deck. this does not apply to the non-bose systems. that is a simple swap.

My experience with replacing a Bose system is from my last car. I ripped out the whole system and replaced it with alpine and ADS etc. In the end it did sound better but was cost prohibitive. I think the Bose high end is a little lacking. The bass(or midbass, because bose does not really go down that low) is actually pretty good considering the small box and 5" woofer in the system. I have a cab and there is really no room for a bigger sub. Now if you are willing to give up the back seats or even the floor in the back than you have some options. I know a guy in my neighborhood who replaced some of his system in his Bose cab, especially the woofer. The low end sound is not better, infact I think worse, but if I remember the high end was nicer

If it's got no highs and it's got no lows...it must be BOSE

I've got the BOSE in my car. I am a car audio nut, but there just isn't sufficient room in there to do it right. So I'm just gonna leave it alone.

I really wanted to swap the head unit at least, but I researched it to death and it just can't be done with the BOSE setup. You either tear out the head unit and amps at a minumum, or you just leave it stock. The BOSE amps and speakers run off such weird impedances that they just don't work with normal industry equipment.

This does not apply to non BOSE setups. That is simple plug and play.
