high mileage

I'm just about to roll over 117,000 miles on the original motor in my 99 c2. THat got me thinking about high mileage 996s, the highest mileage motor I've heard of has 125,000 miles. I was wondering if there are any people on 6speed that have put high miles on their original motors or know of any one that has.

Thx

If you've hit 117k and the car's still strong and smooth with no issues, I'd say you could hit 200k easy, assuming it's properly taken care of and maintained.

I'm at 92k now, good as new.

I had 215,000 miles on an 1988 Carrera. I sold it only because it needed a new clutch.

I've heard of 250-300k porsches, always either Air cooled or 996 Turbo. I have one customer with a 996 Carrera with over 130, can't comment on original motor or not. 99's had good motors, years that followed did not for sure, so you're in a special club for sure. Keep on going.

Didn't excellence just do a Carrera 2.7 with high millage? maybe it was more like a while ago.

Keep it up guys - I love hearing this stuff... I bought mine almost a year ago with 55k miles on it and wondered how long I can expect to keep it running... Big fan of German engineering - I had a MB 300E in the 90s that I took to 230k...

Hi Rudy! My silver 996 coupe has 61K on it now. I'm loving it more and more and have decided to take it on some long trips and not be afraid to put some miles on it. We're taking it to Flagstaff next month so that will be the longest trip I've taken in it.

I drove up to Autoclub Speedway last weekend and it did 27mpg on cruise control at a constant 75 mph.

Are you doing the Carlsbad morning car show this Saturday AM?

Alan

Hey Alan!

Mine just rolled up on 69k miles... no problems whatsoever... well - I did have to get the trunk latch replaced, but that doesn't count...

Can't make it this month - I'll be an assistant instructor at a martial arts seminar on Saturday... probably next month, though - I still have those bulbs if you're interested.

Rudy

Nice to see a post where most people are happy with their 996 in performance and longevity. They are great cars and I have had nothing but pleasure from mine. This is my 7th Porsche and my first water cooled one. It is light years better in all respects, and has been more trouble free than any of the previous cars.

Rudy...see you in August.

It's great to hear the postive stories about our 996's as they get bashed so often. I bet the high mileage owners all have one thing in common, they follow a strict maintence schedule and don't flog them to death everytime they are driven. I hope to put mine in the 100k club too.

I have 97k on mine. It's a tip and track it weekly. It should last long since i won't be missing any downshifts!
