Oil leak indiscretions in my last life....paying for it in this one!!
RMS sprung a leak over the weekend. I just have the worst darned luck I tell ya! Covered of course under warranty with excellent service provided by Stead in Walnut Creek. I must have really pissed off the RMS Gods...I am getting a tattoo to pay homage to the Oil Leak Gods in hopes that they stop...offering up skin as sacrifice!! I'm tattooing six tiny oil drops (like those tear drops we see on certain people). Yep, that should appease them...right?

Oil leak in a Porsche!

I have you beat at least in the number of cars and tied in the number of leaks. This weekend 03 C4S started leaving a small puddle of oil in garage checked it at the shop sure enough RMS.
2000 Boxster - 1 RMS / 12,120 mi.
2001 Boxster S - 3 RMS / 9,498mi / 18,251mi / 18,358mi
This one only lasted 5 days
2003 C4S - 1 RMS / 7,650mi

IMHO it is unexceptable for any car manufactuer to still be having the same problem today that has been around since 1999.
I'm glad you have a good attitude about it. True there is nothing you can do but let them fix it, but I would be pissed.....

Will an RMS issue lower the value of the car...or is it assumed that the problem is fixed to a "like new" state thus the dealer shouldn't have to cover increased depreciation. Will a Carfax report disclose that the car has had a previous RMS issue? Not sure of the answer...but if I was buying a used car I'd sure like to know whether the RMS has failed 3 times previously.

I find the continual RMS problems of 911's a big reason why I will not buy a 996. It is absolutely pitiful that this problem which appears to affect approximately 50% of 996's can not be permanently fixed by Porsche.
I hate oil leaks and it would drive me crazy spending the money for a Porsche just to wait for the eventual puddle of oil in my garage.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why many feel the 996 will go down as the least collectible of the 911's. Hopefully the 997 iteration will be different.

Interesting statistic based on what facts/numbers? Especially using the term "permanently".

I'm a former Vette owner too. I had a '94 Vette that I bought with 30K on the clock and except for an occasional electrical gremlin (the CD player was crap), the car was nearly bulletproof. It carried me to 75K miles without nary a hiccup...even in snow! I love my 996 in third gear and 3000 RPM up, nothing touches it on the open road. But I grit my teeth in first and second when the variocam "whumps" at 2500RPM between settings. And when the RMS gave way after I babied this car like no other...it was like the car crapped it's shorts to thank me. ("Now what the f--- is THIS?!") All told, the 996 is fun but I don't think I'll be around for the 997(8).
