Headunit rattles everytime i start the car...

Anyone else have this problem or know what it is? Everytime i start the car, i hear a rattle coming from the headunit where the single CD loader is. I'm gonna wait for my next service to take it in but maybe one of you guys might know a quick fix.

It's probably the CD holder just below the head unit. On all my Carreras, they rattled and are useless, so I replaced them with an extra shelf unit:

It it a rattling or does it sound like the cd is trying to read a cd that may or may not be there?

I hate those CD holders. Where can I get a shelf unit or a blank insert where I might mount my satellite radio?

I had the same problem with the cassette holder, it was vibrating as I came to a stop. I yanked it out and just have a gaping hole there until I get around to ordering a little cubby shelf to replace it.

According to Loren @ renntech.org, the part numbers are:

Plastic shelf:
996 552 253 01 01C Shelf (Satin Black)

Leather shelf:
996 552 994 01 xxx Shelf (replace xxx with appropriate leather color code)

Or you could get the GT3 console delete and eliminate everything between the radio and shifter, gives you more room to move your legs.

it's not coming from the cd storage...

Like corey mentioned.... it sound's like the headunit is trying to read a cd. And sometimes i have to restart the car for the CD player to work correctly.

You have the dreaded CDR23 failure issue. It may also lose all of your radio presets and other settings. Take it to the dealer. They will replace the radio and/or load new software for the known problem.

It took me 3 tries to get one that works correctly most of the time.

If it is the radio failure, TRUST ME, Becker does NOT have a solution for this yet.

My '04 Becker head unit cuts off sometimes when calls come in and mute the radio, then it comes back on all set back to zero, etc. Piece of crap. Been replaced once.

Becker told me just yesterday they are still working on this and do not yet have a solution. Sheeeesh.
