Rear deck 12" subwoofer custom box install pics

Built and dry-assembled my sub box for the rear deck. Sound is incredible! and I haven't glued together the box, screwed it up tight, silicone caulked the joints, or put the fiber-fill in it yet. Just a dry run. I think I'll paint it black for now. If I carpet with Savannah Beige the speaker itself will really stand out. I think black will be a little more stealth. Well, as stealth as you can be with a 12" speaker in your back window...

Check out the picture of my view in the rear view mirror. No obstruction!

Looks good.

That looks good! I thought about having a custom box made until the stereo guy quoted me $550! I ended up going with the Rockford slim line 12" in slim line box. It worked out perfect. It sits on the back shelf with just minor hangover. I used foam blocks as legs to support the 3" hangover and heavy duty Vel-cro to keep the box from moving around. There is absolutely no obstruction of view as the box is parallel with the back seats. Anyway. Good luck with your project.

There is a speaker terminal cup on the side that is up against the back seats, so it is removable if needed.

Looks very clean. I'm sure the sound is 100x better with that 12 back there now. My stock system is pretty anemic sounding. I need to do this upgrade.

My speakers are all stock. They can handle the mids and highs, albeit not as crisp as upgrades all around, but the key is the sub and the amp. My Alpine head unit has a subwoofer level control and my amp has controls for center frequency, crossover point, and gain. I kid you not, this set up sounds GOOD.

What head unit/amp combo do you have? I've always liked Alpine stuff and have had it in the past. I just haven't gotten around to upgrading yet. I'd love a nice double din video screen I can run my iphone in with video and streaming music like pandora.

The double dins are pretty easy to do with these cars since you can move the climate controls and reconfigure the center console to your liking. I have a run of the mill flip-down face, single cd Alpine HU with an iPod connector (male) through the back of one of the storage cubbies so I can just plug the iPod right into it. My amp is an Alpine M500 which is feeding all 500 watts into my sub at 2 ohms.

Looks weird like that as a single standalone square box...the box needs to extend across and conform more to the entire back section...a section that large really looks better with two or more sub's vs. one...

below is a prime custom example...

Wow - that really is nice custom work.... and green too :-) That is very nice looking but probably more involved than what I could ever do myself.

The earlier post of the Fosgate slimlne box looks nice. Does anyone know of a slim self powered woofer box that gives nice sound?

I assume you are joking. Especially with the Pee-Wee Herman's Playhouse green paint...

I was referring to the design...not the color...
