99' 996 Headlights

My 99 996 has HID headlights but my friend's does not. Can anybody explain this? Did Porsche really make this an option?

If they came without HID's how much would it cost for a conversion?

You mean litronics? If you want to do it with factory parts, I think it's 2k+.
I just bought a xenon kit from one of the sponsors for 120 or so and it looks great and easy to install.

That's what I got. Very easy to install and they look great. I did modify it a little as I didn't want the whole unit inside the housing due to heat.

The litronics look bad *** day or night. They really give the car a different look. But if you just want the brightness at night, HID should work.

I scored my litronics for $600 + core. Love them.

I had a 1999 Porsche 996 with halogens and pulled them out for a set of Litronic headlights. You can even use the 986 Boxster Litronics if you can find them. They are a straight plug and play except for the auto-leveling which is where the retrofit $$'s come in. They work fine without auto-leveling installed if they are aimed properly. FYI
