Troubles with a 200 996.. please help!

So, I just got a 200 996 43K miles silver drop top. The car has had all of its maintenance... the seller gave me a brand new K&N intake kit, and I put it on... Now about 3-4 days later the car keeps getting a check engine light for o2 sensors... and today for some reason it has a loss of power between 4000-5500rpm... so it hits hard from 500-4000rpm.. then there is a break of power between 4K-5.5K then it hits hard again

Soooo weird.

Please help !

Thanks,
Paul

The oil in the filter most likely fouled the MAF. Try cleaning it, if that doesn't work replace it. This has been a problem using K&N filters on 996 and 986 cars for years

Lots of people get. CEL's with the KN kits. Usually too much oil on the filter. Try to clean it. Or remove the KN and go back to OEM. You will need to clear the codes which takes a PST2 or a Durametric. I don't think a regular OBD will clear them.

I don't use an oiled filter go for an AEM filter which replaces the K&N filter, it's a dry filter.

did you disconnect the battery before you install it to reset the ecu...if not you'll get that CEL light everytime....You'll need to clear it with the durametric..try putting your oem back & run it for awhile....then put the k&n back w/the battery disconnect.

Wrap the K&N in news paper for 1-2 days. That will help suck the xtra oil out of it. I've done this with every one I've had on several vehicles and never got a problem...

Unless you have cams and/or headwork, better to stick with the OEM filter imo. Have you seen the flow tests but more importantly, the filtering tests?

K&N is good for reuseability and has negligible flow on a mostly stock motor but I would rather have better filtration and 95% of the flow of a OEM Filter and just be more diligent in changing it out more. My $.02

i have had the K&N for some years now, when oiling it is easy to over oil, i clean the MAF often with MAF cheaner from the parts store...the oil on the MAF will throw O2 codes and abs and stability....use some dry papertowels to wipe off some of the oil and clean the MAF
