Rough start what could it be?

I have a rough cold start (first start) from 1K to 2K.... it bogs through 1k to 2K...then it drops back normally to 1K then when it warms up it goes down to 600RPM.

I'm curious what could it be? Coil packs? spark plugs?

There is a air charge temperature sensor in the MAF (I think it is pin #1). I was having the same problem that got progressively worst the colder it got. When it backfired one morning. I ordered a MAF. Problem went away.

Don't these car have an idle control valve? Should be a little sensor on the side of the throttle body. Sometimes they start sticking.

The only cars that have the idle control valve are the 98-99 C2. The 99 C4 and all 2000 and up are all electronic throttle.

maybe you just have a bad tank of gas? Have you had it sitting for a while? Try some injector cleaner or something first, but with the history of our 996s coilpacks and plugs are probably the cause as others have already said.
