So I did my ashtray / smoker's delete tonight. Looks excellent and was a snap. But much to my delight, the delete came with a $3.48 bonus. That's how much change was lying around inside the center console!

I think there's still more that I couldn't reach that will have to wait for my center console painting. Now I'm doubly motivated to do that!

I got robbed - only about $0.52!

On another note - my replacement piece came in black, which doesn't quite match the charcoal gray console. Does anyone know of a paint that will match the console color?

I don't know about interior console color, but this place sells spray cans made to match the exterior of the car along with clear coat etc. It's what I'm using to paint my center console to match my Arctic Silver.

Thanks. What material is it made from? Rubber coated plastic or standard plastic?

 

It feels kinda rubbery, but I'll double check when I get home. Regardless, I'm pretty sure others have painted them, and I plan to as well.

Suncoast is where I got mine too. The install is very easy, as the unit is held on by only two plastic screws in plastic compression sleeves beneath the ashtray. The window switches pop out of the old unit and into the new one. Just be careful not to let any of the plastic pieces fall into the console when the unit is out!

I also hacked my garage door opener and installed it inside the console as well so that it is controlled by a switch in the center console unit. Now I have a much more useful center console unit.
