RMS leaking again after only 250 miles

Had my cars RMS replaced 250 miles ago/6 weeks ago & the RMS is now leaking oil (dripping on my garage floor).
Why would there be an issue again? Thoughts?

Was it replaced by a Porsche dealer or an independent mechanic? Was the most recent revision of the seal used?

I did do a search and could not find an example of the RMS leaking again after it was replaced 250 miles ago.

there have been many instances of multiple RMS leaks on the same car with the issue usually being the installation of the wrong seal or incorrect installation of the seal...there are a multitude of threads about this issue that go back to 2004 and I can't believe you did an adequate search if you didn't find them

It was done by the dealer. Looking at my Invoice I see these parts were used (not sure what # is the seal itself):
996-105-024-01 Shaft Housing
900-123-147-30 Seal Ring 27x32
997-101-212-01 Shaft Sealing Ring

This maybe a great opportunity for you to get them to do the IMS as well- maybe you can convince them to use the aftermarket ims fix..

IMS was not done...they didn't recommend it or say anything. Hmmm I wonder what the IMS would run me $?!

Good tip and the whole clutch was inspected. They replaced the clutch release fork pivot ball and lubed the clutch linkage components

IMS upgrade part is $500 from LNE (http://www.lnengineering.com/ims.html) + a couple of hours labor; my indy grouped the IMS with some other work so can't break IMS out alone, but all labor for new clutch, throw-out guide, pilot bearing and slave, IMS upgrade, RMS replacement, checking flywheel, bleeding new slave, checking and topping up fluids, checking fault codes and general looking over everything was $1,250 [OEM clutch kit was $500, IMS upgrade was $500, RMS was $20, slave was $140 and misc (including oil top-up) was another few bucks] for total parts and labor of about $2,500 all-in.

I would want to know if they checked for movement at the end of the crank...possibly caused by a crank that isn't true. You would hope that it was just a seal or installation issue...but persistent problems have sometimes been traced to the crankshaft itself.

Ersel, noticed you were in the Bay Area... some of our local Porsche dealers know about the L&N IMS bearing upgrade and can sell and install it. I think Carlsen Porsche is one of them. Which dealer did the work? I would HIGHLY recommend you get the IMS done since it is only about 15 minutes of labor extra compared to the RMS seal itself. It is just above the RMS. David

It is going back to the Fremont Porsche dealer next week to be looked at. I asked about the IMS (not in any detail) and he said it wasn't leaking oil so they did not replace. I would spend the little extra $ (L&N) for piece of mind if they know how to do it, etc, etc.
