How do you install window regulator to the motor?

Anybody knows a link or how to install window regulator to the motor?

The cables are loose, it looks like I need a regulator instead of the motor.

The motor seems to have trouble putting the window down.

Or it might be both that I need.

There's a good write-up on www.renntech.org.

It's a fairly easy DIY.

I just don't know whether it's my regulator or motor. So I don't know which to buy. Cables are loose. Motor is making "crunchy" noise.

crunching noises are not coming from the motor, its usually the cables stretching because they are worn. I replaced it not long ago

Does the window drop to clear the weatherstrip when you first pull the door handle? If not, can you push it down with your hand? When you do this, does it raise into proper position when you close the door?

All these are symptoms of a window regulator.

You shouldn't need to replace the motor - it will bolt onto the new regulator. The new regulator will include the cables.

I bought mine at Suncoast Porsche in Florida.

some cars are sold as one unit.the noise is the regulator..they are actually not to hard at all to change.

if you can buy the regulator only ..will be alot cheaper.
cables are not replaceable.

installing window regulator

DO YOURSELF THIS FAVOR:

When you install your new window regulator, be sure you disconnect the battery before you disconnect the airbag in the door, but HERE IS THE KEY - do not move the window up and down, before you reconnect the air bag, as it will set off the air bag light, which can only be turned off by the dealer. How do I know ? I made this mistake myself.

Again, DO NOT OPERATE THE WINDOW BEFORE YOU RECONNECT THE AIRBAG.

Hope this helps. It is not real difficult to do.

Have you bought a window regulator yet ? I ask, as a new window regulator is way over priced at the dealer, like $406 ?

I found a brand new one with a 1 year warranty for less than $200.
If you need one, send me a message @ Nyse003@aol.com

Jim

does the vendor have several available? I took everything apart and it looks like its the cables for me. If i cant get the cables seperately, it looks like I'll have to get them as part of the regulator as well.

that is a regulator. he could be using a generic picture though.
only way you would be screwed on doing this job if they did like GM
years ago and riveted the regulator in.
I just did one on my Moms MB G wagon..and it took me less then 1 hour..
never opened a Porsche door panel so not sure what tools you may need.they could use those tamper proof torx screws.but you can get
that tool at a local auto parts store maybe even home depot.
