Poll: replacing damaged tail lights with OEM or LED?

My tail lights are malfunctioning so I have to replace them. The cost is the same for OEM and for the LED version so popular now. I just hate to have a mod and not the original part in case I change my mind. What do you guys think?

Definitely do LED, they make the car look much better and give it an updated look from the rear. You can buy them on Amazon.com for around the low $300's, and the fitment is PERFECT. I just bought a set about a 2 weeks ago and they look awesome.

When you order just make sure you pick the right color: smoked or regular. The smoked isn't really that dark, and you can't really tell that much during the day.... It's very subtle. I'd go with this if you have a darker car, or are doing the blacked out theme.

Thanks Diablo 360, can you pm me the vendor? Want to avoid the resistor issue. Did they come with it? I got 99 tip c2.

Here is the exact vendor I bought from:

Regular/Clear: http://www.amazon.com/Redlines-Clear...6079238&sr=8-1

Smoked: http://www.amazon.com/Redlines-Smoke...6079238&sr=8-6

Oh, and I must have gotten the prices mixed up. I paid $380 too..... The good thing about ordering them from Amazon is that they actually fulfill the shipment, and I have an Amazon Prime account, so I got free 2nd day shipping, and I paid no taxes, so $380 wasn't a bad price at all...... There are a lot of Ebay vendors that are selling them in the low $300's, but they are being shipped from Taiwan and China. Not that it's a bad thing, it just takes longer, and if you get a bad set, returning them is a hassle.......

Oh and btw, I had NO transistor issues. I think it was only a problem that 02+ owners had. Another perk of owning a 99

Installation was EASY btw. Probably one of the easiest tail light swaps I have done on ANY car I have ever owned.

Good luck with your purchase, you'll love the lights.

Just fyi, the LEDs sold on Amazon are the same color as the 997 LEDs. How do they look "riced out" on our cars but not on 997's? They give it a newer, updated look in my opinion, without looking too "aftermrket." They look different in the pictures (on Amazon) because they are showing the tail light with the lights lit. The lights look like OEM, and the quality (so far) is just as good as oem.

LED lights aren't exclusive to the 997, nor do they only look on cars that came with them. There are plenty of cars where later in the production run the manufacturers switched to LEDs. Do they look riced out in those situations? I upgraded to OEM LED's in my other 2 cars (05 SC430 and 03 Landcruiser) and they dramatically improved the looks by taking cars that were "dated" and making them look newer. The mod is a lot more subtle than you may think. They're not alteeza's lol

If they made an aftermarket LED light that looked more similar to the 997 version, I might consider it. I haven't seen one yet for the 996 that gets me too excited. I have a wide body car, so it's a moot point for me anyway.

How about some pics of your rear? Color does make a difference...especially if you're considering smoked or clear
