Denison Gateway Lite and CDR 23
I considered using it, but when I can get a new high quality head unit with bluetooth for music streaming and full handsfree operation for $150 I decided to do that instead. Also, this enables me to throw out the CD-changer and the DSP controller to save some weight :-)
Picking up an old thread here but I am in the middle of trying to install the Gateway Lite in my '04 911. It isn't going very smoothly as my installer says the dealer needs to flash the radio to make it think sit has a cd changer and the dealer says it does show a cd changer. On top of that even though I know I ordered the Dension kit specific to my car (MOST/Bose), the installer says the fiber optic cable in the kit does not fit. He's still working on it so maybe it'll get figured out.
All of this for a stinking iphone/ipod hook-up?!?

Magus, I'm assuming you're running the CDR23 ? And where did you purchase your Gateway Lite GWL1M01 ? I'm surprised Eric at BP doesn't offer these since the price makes it a doable alternative to the 500.
Yes, a CDR23 (no physical cd changer). i bought the kit off of Amazon via a company called Sound Connections Inc. I then had to buy the actual iPhone/iPod to round Gateway port cable separately.
When i was at the dealer he showed me the diagnostic screens - via connection to the car - where on the first it showed the amplifier in port 1 and a cd changer in port 2 but on the second screen which I believe was showing what was actually connected in the car it showed amplifier in port 1 but nothing connected in port 2 (i.e no cd changer).
I think I may be running in to the Yasaki/Tyco connector issue which will be my next purchase. Something like this:
"Dension FOA1TY1 Yazaki to Tyco adapter for Porsche. Please note that about 10% of the Porsche vehicles have YAZAKI plugs. As for now, there is no easy way to identify which vehicle is equipped with the YAZAKI or TYCO Optical system. The only way to identify which optical system the vehicle is equipped with is to perform a visual inspection. The YAZAKI Optical system has generally been seen on 2003 vehicles, production quarters 1 and 2. (i.e.: February 2003 production code normally located in the driver door edge). Porsche vehicle equipped with the YAZAKI Optical system MUST use Dension Converter cable FOA1TY1 to integrate the interface into the optical MOST citcuit of the vehicle."

Just to close the loop on my exciting Dension Gateway Lite install -- it is now done and actually works. One last hurdle was to download the Porsche config file, copy to a USB drive and then connect to the Gateway unit. This step happens as part fo the install so plan accordingly. So, after one Dension Gateway Lite unit, a Yazaki converter cable and a file download and install we have lift-off.
At the end of the day I am happy to have an iPod/iPhone option for music in the 996. The Gateway Lite seems priced a bit steep for what is a pretty simple set-up, but what price music?!?

With installation and the extra cable did the price point approach the 500 unit?
Curious as to the installation cost. And you are correct sir about the price of music....betcha your " Bone Thugs and Harmony" collection sounds smokin

I can't remember the exact cost of the GWL but believe it came out to roughly $400 with extra cable and install. Also, I am controlling the iPod/iPhone directly. From what I have seen so far, the functionality of the head unit controls are not worth the effort.
Still, Spotify, Pandora, GPS voice and music library are all welcome additions!
