Lost key will cost me upwards of $2K? - Desperately need advice

I posted this thread awhile back:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ey-urgent.html

Where it stands now it took a week to get the key to arrive, and then my indy was not able to reprogram the key.

The car is at a Porsche dealer now and they have not been successful at reprogramming it. I have been told that if they do not succeed I might have to get a new alarm module which is over 2K.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advise for me?

Thank you

Could it be that the transponder module in the replacement key is broken/missing/non functional? Certainly they would have tried more than one key.,,

If it doesnt work out, I would bring it to the best car audio shop in the area and have them install a top of the line aftermarket system for much less

@NOLA: It might be the case but it's a brand new key, not sure if they had tried more than one key. I called one audio shop and they said in order to do the aftermarket one I may have to have a programmed key already prior to installing the module.. This is a nightmare. that's a good idea, I am going to try to do that if they can't figure it out.

But why is this happening? The car used to start fine before I lost the key...

when i got my car last year, i just happened to see a few disaster threads regarding losing your only key. so $300 later, i have a spare key. if you buy the key from porsche (which is what i did), there is no reason they can't get it programmed. porsche sends you the key by the VIN. porsche gives you the programming code. try another dealer. good luck

I will post the name of the dealer after this is over. They are charging flat $1000 to install the new alarm module. They say my car needs one. I came across this though, it's $150 DIY, has anyone tried them?

http://www.lostporschekeys.com/PorcheAlarmModule.aspx

I am busy with relocation right now and just don't have time to get the car towed from one dealer to another especially when I am not around.

Although I told them to order the module it's tempting to recall it, hate being ripped off especially after everyone tells me I am.

I would be very hesitant to send a part of my car to someone on the web, unless I had a lot of good feedback on them!!!

spare key blade

This will not help with the transponder but the is a company on ebay, based in England, that makes key blades from a picture of yours. At $15 each a great find. I have two and they both work perfectly.

I had a very similar situation with a 993. I had one key, and sought to get another. the dealer could no program it, and projected a new transponder module, $2k.

that and $5k worth of maintenance convinced me to trade it in.

of course, i put the money is updates and upgrades on my C4S

I had to replace my alarm module a few months back because of some clogged water drainage lines and it get wet. Dealer charged me 1200 which included reprogramming of the key. You have to go to a different dealer, but this isn't a Porsche specific problem as with any new car it's big ???? When you lose your only key.

Must be someway to reset the module. Did you do a search on Saab to see if some list the steps? His site list a lot on info about Saab.
I would take the $150 gamble.
