4" in dash and back panels. Existing grills need modding though as the factory grill/speaker arrangement is a combo unit. You can cut out the current ones or order new blank grills and mod those.

And 6,5 can be install in the doors.

Dash and back panel 2" top mount depth max. On door panels, factory size is 5 1/4 and 2.5 top mount depth. The only component speakers that fit nicely are Focal and MB Quart.

fitting the 6.5 in the doors. Would that take a lot of modding around?

Very easy to fir 6.5 depend of speaker selected you either remove the oem enclosure and make baffle (plate) for new speakers or modified the stock enclosure means enlarge the cutout for speaker and sealed around.No worries to doit.Even caveman can doit:-)

Now would I still be able to keep the stock speaker "grills" that are on the doors?

I figure this involves cutting the door?

No.the speaker grills are part of door panel you need ofcourse remove.

right right, I understand that I will have to remove when I do the install, but will the stock speaker grills fit on top of the 6.5 speakers?

Old thread, but here it goes.... would it be possible to put 8" units in the rear speaker enclosures, if the new units are 2" deep only, very shallow?

Are you trying to fit subs in the back enclosure? If that is your intent, I would build an enclosure behind the back seat. It will sound better and will be a lot cheaper.

Yes that is my intention. Is a cab so no rear deck possible. And don't want to loose rear room or front room. My options are:

Use the rear speakers enclosure. I have access to a pair or rather high end subs, 8" and only 2" deep. Very shallow.

Or, I did read from a 993 guy that somehow did put it on the trunk and it worked. But I don't have details on it nor I know if that would work on a 996.

Well that all makes sense now, I was going to suggest the passenger footwell but since you don't want to lose any room that's not an option either. I've seen trunk mounted subs with air duct to the cabin but not in a Porsche. If you are settled on the rear enclosures, you might just want to remove the existing speakers and you'll have a clearer view on which way to go but going that route will entail a lot of custom work so get your wallet ready if you don't have the know or the tools. Sorry it's not a solution, just my 2c.
